Pink Floyd Talk Sgt Pepper?
Hey guys! I'm trying to settle an issue I have with my friend...I distinctly recall a VH1 special in which someone in Pink Floyd was talking about the influence of Sgt Pepper on Dark Side of the Moon..

The quote was something like "we try for each of our albums to be our Sgt Pepper"

Can anyone back this up?? I can't find reference to this anywhere online!

Thanks!

All I can tell you? is that back in the day, they where often in the same studio complex. There is NO doubt, there was some cross polenation, however meek and mild.

As for EXACT details? you will have to wait for other to instruct.

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever.

The Floyd would hang out in the studio while the Beatles were recording Sgt. Peppers. I'm sure it had an influence on them in one way or another.

Yes! "Lucy in the sky" was remembered in "Let there be more light". And song "Corporal Clegg" is like Beatles' creation of period of "Sgt. Pepper".

The Beatles have influenced anyone, consciously or unconsciouly, in music industry. But their influence on Floyd was never big.

Anyway, Floyd alludes to Beatles lyrics in some of their verses but such instances were strictly in early days.

Of course they want their album(s) to be like Sgt Pepper!

It means they want to create Big Fucking Success. It doesn't mean they're being influenced by album

Well quite.
All they meant was each successive release was an attempt at their magnum opus (ie the thing they`d be remembered for). They`re not stating an attempt at Sgt.Pepper in format, but in impact, as a lasting musical statement.Walkman

If by that, you mean "magnum opus", no... if you mean "comeback album", no... lol Smile

hi, um i do know of one reference to Sgt Pepper, i think it was on 'The Pink Floyd Story - which one's Pink?' and Nick says 'remember this was a world without sgt pepper...' when referring to Piper, but he wasn't saying he wanted his album to be like it - though it could be what you remember? hope this helps.
