PFO's favorite album of each year
So we tried doing this on another forum and it was pretty successful, so I thought it would be fun to try here. We would start with an agreed upon year (1959?), and go all the way up to 2008. Each member gives a list of their top 5 albums released that year (if you haven't heard 5 then just do as many as you can). #1 album of the year gets 5 points, #2 gets 4 points, #3 gets 3, #4 gets 2, and #5 gets 1. After you post, make an updated list with the total scores, and after a couple days the album with the most points wins that year and we move on to the next year.

So what do you think? And what year should we start on?

This is a good idea. I don't know about the year. I doubt many people have heard lots of albums from the 1950's . . . Thumbsup

In my head, I predicted 1967 would be first. Shows you what I know.
This smacks of something that comes from ASR. I'm not sayin' that is good or bad just familiar cross pollination.

1968 seems ridiculously late to start. Starting there skips over several extremely important years in music. I'd say we should start in the mid 1950's.

actually a very nice idea...and I'd agree, even though a lot of us may be somewhat unfamiliar with albums from the 50's those that are familiar can list some and perhaps we can broaden our horizons, so I'd say maybe 1950...Bill Haley released a cover of "Rocket 88" in 1951, Elvis did "That's All Right" in '54, and Les Paul and Mary Ford recorded "How High The Moon" in '51 so starting around there would be a good start in my opinion, although I freely admit we're probably gonna be going on research and other's opinions until we get to the 60's, should still be interesting though.

OK then, who's going to start it. I am actually looking forward to this. Afterwards we can vote for the best album of each decade and then find our favourite album ever . . . !

That sounds like a good idea too. On ASR we started in 1959, and that's when Kind of Blue by Miles Davis came out. That's the earliest album I've heard, and I doubt many others have heard many from much else of the '50s. I like Kimbers' idea of just 1950, and we could just go through the '50s quickly since not many people can contribute. If people want to skip the '50s completely, then I guess we could start in '63 since that's when the Beatles first album came out and "classic rock" pretty much started.

Why not do 1960, it's a much less random number than '63. Just because that's when the Beatles' first album came out doesn't mean a thing. For instance, Bob Dylan released his first in 1962. That's just as good a year to start, by that kind of logic. No, I'd say go with 1950, 1955, or 1960.

Yeah, good point. How about we start with 1955? I can't participate yet, but anyone who is able to can feel free to post their list.
