Yeah, I thought that too. Who knows?
I think they both popularised it at the same time. Listen to the song Tale of Brave Ulysses on Disraeli Gears - amazing track with a great use of that particular pedal.

He does mention Jimi in the interview, saying Jimi asked if he could jam with em & blew em all away. they were recording White Room & Hendrix said; Wow! I wish I could write something like that. Bruce said, hey we probably nicked it off you.

Jimi and Cream both have versions of Born Under a Bad Sign, too. I'm not sure which came first, but I think I prefer Cream's (both are good)

yes they were had many names before pink floyd. there was tea set, the flaming arcitechs, the abdabs, and sigma 6 not sure of the order of those but all were names, then came the pink floyd sound, then pink floyd.

It sounds like ol' Jack may be spinnin' a big ol' yarn about them good ol' days. In every account I've read the original five man lineup of Floyd (including Bob Klose) was completed in 1965 when Syd joined and they were called the Tea Set. It seems highly unlikely that Cream, a band that didn't form themselves until mid-1966, could have inspired that.
