RE: David Gilmour and Duran Duran
Gilmour is quite obvious whenever he's on any other songs. He's on Paul McCartney's song "No More Lonely Nights" and has a great solo at the fade out - sounds just like anything he's done, and fits oddly well into a schmaltzy pop song (that I love anyway).

RE: David Gilmour and Duran Duran
Biggrin
Dave Gilmour, who admired very much so Duran Duran 'Rio' album (1982), and perhaps one of the best albums of that decade according to various recognised sources, worked on the 1985 Arcadia Album as the guitarist, among Carlos Alomar (David Bowie). The collaboration - unlikely at that time considering the juxtaposition of music credibility and status of each artist of that time. However, Dave G. observed beyond the eyeliner, screaming girls, and mass market aim of prior Duran Duran material, to work with songs pre-written by Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes.

The best track probably for Floyd fans is 'The Promise' and truley is a magnificent track. The entire albums is polished, 'artsy' and dark in parts; its colourful in other parts. Overall, its a collection of pop-funk-esotericist tracks representing 1980s pop-art, and done very well.

The trick to accept the music is to forget the perception of who Dave G was working with. He could see beyond the mass media teeny bop duran duran. If the audience does, its an outstanding slice of 80s and 9 good reasons to hold with fondness a great era for music and offensive fashion...Biggrin

While cutting grass last evening and my mp3 player shuffling through some of the songs, "The Promise" played and I wondered how exactly one goes about aligning Simon Lebon, Roger Taylor, Nick Rhodes, David Gilmour and Sting? Is there a Ron Saint Germain connection as well?

Hear the song now and refresh your memories
