Personally I think AHM would've been quite great without too much orchestration - the stupid chant section is bad in itself, but it is nohing compared to ridiculous main motif that is dominantly played by horns. It is fantastic chord progression by Dave that sounds just moronic with those blazing horns

( I like the first choral section though, it is just so beautiful. But other orchestra stuff...)

Compare the crunching, hard hitting original state of the main motif with the Dave's guitar to the standard version we all know

The way the band interact and clash with Rons magnificent orchestration speaks for itself.

When I first heard AHM, I was also in shock and thinking what is this? But I grew to appreciate and love it. Plus I play trombone so I was excited to have a PF song I could attempt to play along with lol. PF is great because they aren't afraid to try unconventional things. Isn't that one reason why we love PF so much, because they are so different?

AHM is a great song to say, well one more, then I'll work... (Because its almost half an hour :p Atom Heart Mother Suite that is)

First time I heard it, I was in my bed trying to relax and trying to sleep... But its a bit heavy to listen to when you want to relax. I thought I was on LSD or something

But after a few times I started appreciating it and now, I love the song.

Experimenting is only huge plus, but there are also things called failed experiments.
