Wolfman Jack - The Greatest DJ of All Time
The Wolfman played a pivotal role in American Graffiti and was hilarious as the host of The Midnight Special. He got his start broadcasting into the US on "border blaster" radio stations located in Mexico and not regulated by the FCC (these stations are the subject of ZZ Top's "I Heard It On The X"). Who can forget the Guess Who's "Clap for the Wolfman"? Of course, in the 21st Century, there's not much call for the Wolfman these days (he died in 1995 but he lives on in syndication). I'm sure none of you have heard of him woah Wolfman Jack's Greatest Bits & Ringtones

No doubt, being in with the ranks of Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Richard Petty & a few others, VERY FEW others, falls in as one of The Untouchables. He was the master at music intro's, Tres Hombres reminded me a lot of him. Judging by what's being posted in the Currently Listening To, most don't. Probably just a few here has actually heard a real live broadcast of him in his prime.

My uncle was actually talking about him just a few days ago and told me to do some research on him.

We've seen how sick wind blows
But I've got your bovine eyes
I'll love you like I love you,
Then I'll die.

RIP Devon Clifford (1979-2010).

I always play the Dave Letterman game "Dead Or Canadian" when someone mentions "the Wolfman".
I got to see a few episodes of The Midnight Special during it's original run and no doubt saw him appear on The Tonight Show, Carol Burnett perhaps and other shows like that. He might have even appeared on Hee Haw now that I think about it.

RE: Wolfman Jack - The Greatest DJ of All Time
I never got to hear Wolfman Jack as a DJ on the radio. I saw him on NBC once a week once he had lowered himself to being a pimp for the music industry and was not impressed. ABC's In Concert was what we considered cool. I'm sure he wasn't Casey Kasem but it sure didn't look that way. But I guess even Dick Clark was cutting edge at one time with American Bandstand.

The bottom line is that we got very little in the way of rock'n'roll programming before MTV and we watched everything we could get.

What? No one voted for Dr Johnny Fever? Sure, he was only a TV character, but you gotta admit, he did a helluva job.
