LP limitations - the Wall 30 Ann.
Most bands today take technology for granted. 30 plus years ago, Floyd had many ideas but were limited to the amount of time restrains on their albums based on the LP record. A CD can hold up to 78 min. of music commercially distributed; a record, however, could only hold up to 23 min. of good sounding material on a single side of a 2 sided disc.

The Wall was such an example. If the LP limitations did not exist, then "What Shall We Do Now?" would have been included on the album along with the reprise "Empty Spaces." ..And perhaps a few other band favorites left off the masterpiece due to time retrains!

The Wall will be 30 in a little over a year..It would be a little understandable if the band did not do a reunion tour..

However, I feel like since the limitations of LP recordings are way gone, the least Roger and Dave and Rick and Nick can do is go back and "re-invent" the band's albums..such as the wall, a collection of great dance songs (which is missing bitter love, the hero's return (1&2) and pigs on the wing (8-track version) and AMLOR (a track or two unreleased; even if it's one hitting on Waters at the time).

Rog just hit 65..shit..at least get with the old mates and Guthrie and make it happen..Frog another Echoes compilation..do something "new" with the old..

Dead right! The Wall is undoubtedly one of the all-time classic albums, and with the 30th anniversary of its release coming up, this would be a perfect time to release "The Complete Wall" by including tracks which, due to the time limitations of vinyl, never made it to the LP. And how about a bonus disc of versions recorded for the film, too?

As for the 8 Track version of "Pigs On The Wing", could we please also have Snowy White's mix, which IMHO is even better than Floyd's!

While there's no question imho that The Wall is a all time classic and lp's compared to today's media were limited. The idea of making something new from the old and that anything is "the least they should do" just don't cut it in reality. If wishes were fishes...

And now the final solution can be applied.

Well, I'm not sure that it's necessary, or even desirable, to "re-invent" any of Floyd's albums either (although I have to admit that, to my surprise, I really liked what George Martin did with The Beatles songs on "LOVE"), but a track like "Backs To The Wall", for example, was left off not because it wasn't up to scratch, but because time restraints made it necessary to cut something.

So, with that in mind, I guess it's fair to say that including "Backs To The Wall" in a 30th anniversary release would actually make the album that much closer to what the band had originally intended... which is fine with me.

I think that there are enough boring fillers on The Wall already. Thank heavens they were restricted by the LP-format.

This is my very humble opinion, of course. Innocent

What limitations??? Side 2 of disc 1 is only 19 minutes long, I just timed it. WHAT SHALL WE DO NOW could have fit perfectly in that side as it's no more than 2 minutes long, so I guess they left it out because of other reasons.
What do you all think??
