A General Statement Regarding Posting Etiquette
Recently it seems that several threads have turned into bickering sessions between members. I'd like to point out that no matter how silly or pointless a thread may seem doesn't give license to bait the author of it. This also holds true to posts within any given thread. While the forum is all about discussing and debating intellectually, it seems that more often than not recently members resort to calling each other's post boring or dumb or stupid rather than giving an opinion politely. If you have no interest in a particular thread, ignore it. If you have to resort to name calling to solidify your point, you're wrong. Everyone, please do all of your fellow members a favor and just don't post in the thread if you find it uninteresting or droll. If someone is trolling or baiting you and a mod doesn't notice, bring it to our attention by pm rather than addressing it on the open forum. We don't want to be put in a position to start deleting or locking threads and penalizing members due to childish bickering. PFO is a community forum, there are things about it that aren't perfect, there are things about it that are fantastic, let's try to accentuate the latter. I will not continue mediating silly exchanges on the open forum. Posts and threads will be deleted or locked as soon as the aforementioned behavior starts, no matter how good the thread may be. I find it disheartening to even have to make this post.

And now the final solution can be applied.

Is aimed mostly at me?

I think I just got my eWrist eSlapped.

I haven't actually rubbished any of chromeboomerang's threads, I had a joke in the one about Rock facts, but the one about the 50s wasn't trolling, he misunderstood my post. I agree that my response was a little childish and I apologise to the PFO community.

I didn't even know what this was about, I thought maybe I had done something, then I read the thread in question. I agree, some things can be prevented, and to maintain a positive environment, that kinda stuff should probably be dealt with, but let's just keep this in mind, and hope it doesn't reoccur

Good points cevor, and really it is all about respect, both for the original poster and in the follow up posts, it's real easy to be a jerk here in cyberland but I seriously doubt most of us would be anywhere near as critical in real life, and the times never change...I said something pretty close here in 2005: http://www.pinkfloydonline.com/forums/sh...http://www.pinkfloydonline.com/forums/showthread.ph

Def not aimed mostly at you or any other individual. It was for general consumption.

I remember that little episode! Good times, to be sure. Especially for those not involved in the feud...like me.

But you're right about the shroud of Internet anonymity playing a role. That's why everyone should be directed to the "Post pics of yourself" thread and contribute, so that when we're about to say something regrettable or call someone the offspring of some bottom-dwelling sea creature, we can pause and realize that they're not just some words on our computer screen...they're people. And the forum would be a happier place.

Now, I'm gonna work on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
