ugh. bright and nice? who needs that? :p
You know what I mean! Try comparing The Final Cut to Division Bell. TFC has a dark feeling to it, while DB has more of a lighter feel. Atleast, that's what I feel out of it.???

I think most people would agree with you. Meddle through The Wall is by far my favorite period for the band. Although I still love Piper and Saucerful, just because I think theyre very unique albums. I dont really like any of the albums after The Wall, though. TFC is a too boring, for me, and the other 2 are just not very good.

That era would be ranked like this, for me:

Dark Side
Animals
The Wall
Meddle

I would tend to agree that this was their best period, creatively, but I still have a fondness for the 1968-71 experimentalisation. Two of my favourite albums are Atom heart Mother and A Saucerful Of Secrets.

While there are about four main periods for the band, you can break down their entire career into many more parts, I prefer to look at each individual album as a period, whether you agree that it is an evolution or not.

I agree that the 71-79 were the best years for them as a band.
Although I love A Saucerful of Secrets and More.
Also personally I would include Atom Heart Mother and Obscured by Clouds with those that you named.
