Nick Mason and Bill Wyman attack Guitar Hero, Rock Band
Hey guys, I found this article on ultimate-guitar.com

Ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Bill Wyman and Pink Floyd star Nick Mason have attacked computer games like Rock Band for deterring youngsters from picking up real instruments.

Speaking on the eve of the release of "The Beatles: Rock Band", both the music icons believe such music games have a negative effect on children.

72-year-old Wyman, The Rolling Stones' guitarist from 1962 to 1992, said of the games to the BBC: "It encourages kids not to learn, that's the trouble.

"It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument. I think is a pity so I'm not really keen on that kind of stuff."

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason echoed the sentiment saying of Guitar Hero and Rock Band: "It irritates me having watched my kids do it - if they spent as much time practising the guitar as learning how to press the buttons they'd be damn good by now."

However, Alex Rigopulas from Harmonix Systems, the company behind Rock Band, believes the games have the opposite effect and actually encourage people to become good at playing their instruments.

He told the Beeb: "Most people try to learn an instrument at some point in their lives, and almost all of them quit after a few months or a year or two. This, I think, is because the earliest years of learning an instrument are the least gratifying.

"When people play Rock Band, however, they very quickly get a glimpse of the rewards that lie on the other side of the wall.

"We're constantly hearing from fans who were inspired by Rock Band to start studying a real instrument."

Jimmy Page and Jack White said pretty much the same thing.

I learned to play real guitar before I started playing guitar hero. I'd like to see more people who are good on rock band drums to play real drums, because there's a good chance they'll be great on it. Call me an elitist, but when I see someone play rock band on easy or medium and they start missing notes, i start getting irritated. The reason why is a long story that I don't feel like typing out. It involves a high school assembly and guitar hero world tour. ugghh. I always did think it would be cool to play pink floyd on rock band, but I have more fun playing it on a real guitar. I will never forgive Guitar Hero for ruining Kurt Cobain's legacy, so it would have to be a ROCK BAND pink floyd Game. And i say that being a HUGE Rock Band/Guitar Hero collector/afficionado.

Nah best Dragonforce song is Fury of the Storm but, anyways, I played Guitar Hero once, and thought...damn I suck, so I decided to something better and I started learning real guitar. I suck at that too, but I practice everyday so I can only get better.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band are the most fun things ever conceived. My God, they are awesome.

I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing

They're even better when you're drunk.

Rest in Peace, Billy Mays
