Led Zeppelin?
Anyone here like (If even a little) Led Zeppelin?
In my case, I love it.

Haha, I'm gonna try to put this in a condensed form, but it's hard. I used to love Zeppelin, but as time went on, I kinda fell out of my love for them. I recognize them as an important band, and they're pretty good, but as for straight up 70s rock and roll, I'd go with the Who over Zeppelin in a heartbeat. I won't go into why, as this isn't a comparison thread, and I'm sure nobody cares, but Zeppelin just doesn't wow me like they used to, and I only find myself listening to their albums once every great while..but they're still a pretty good band.

Led Zeppelin were brilliant. In particular, Robert Plant is undoubtedly one of the most innovative vocalists of all time.

Absolutely to both of you. For TDO, I love the Who also! Just not as good as Led Zeppelin :P.

Except, I would say that Daltrey is a much more charismatic frontman and more energetic singer, Townshend is undoubtedly a better songwriter, I would argue Moon and Bonham are close, but I would probably give the edge to Moon, and same with Entwistle and JPJ.
The thing is, Townshend was a bigger visionary, lyrics wise, he could create epics..Tommy, Quadrophenia, The bulk of Who's Next, a Quick One, While He's Away..to just name a few. The Who are an AMAZING live band, Led Zeppelin, to me, is just kinda, average. Their lyrics in spots are pretty average (where they didn't rip it off, that is) but they're all technically proficient at their instruments. Also, comparing the singers, I couldn't ever tire of Daltrey, whereas Robert "I have a stick jammed in my ass" Plant, I can only listen to so much of.

You're probably right, I don't have an extensive knowledge of any of the two, so my opinion is pretty biased I'd say. I loved Who's next...just to put my two cents in...

I think the main difference for me, is Townshend was able to put together a cohesive idea into an epic rock opera. Or put together an amazing album like Who's Next. I can't think of anything, off the top of my head that Led Zeppelin put out that's even comparable to Quadrophenia or Tommy. I'd say maybe IV is almost comparable to Who's Next, but even then, Who's Next is all-around a better put-together album in my opinion.

Maybe it doesn't beat Who's next, but it does put it above a few other Who albums.
EDIT: I loved Who's next drumming. It was epic.

Yeah, maybe "It's Hard," "Endless Wire," and maybe "Who Are You", the lesser of the Who's catalogue, but from My Generation, through By Numbers, all amazing albums. I'd like to see Zeppelin top Live at Leeds. They can't, even their live stuff (while pretty good) can't hold a candle to Leeds. "A Quick One, While He's Away" at Leeds. Nuff said. and the performance of that song at the Rock n Roll Circus in '68 is fuckingg amazing.

I wouldn't.

Except for the fact that Townshend's riffs, chord progressions and arrangements sound like he just scribbled down a bunch of notes on paper without consideration for how the listener might react to hearing them. Led Zeppelin actually feels good to listen to, The Who doesn't. That's the main reason I rarely listen to The Who anymore, but still continue to enjoy Zep.

I agree that they're close, but I would give the edge to the Zeppelin members in both cases.

Which is all very well, but he couldn't write interesting music to go along with it. It all sounds so cheesy and formulaic.

I can't really comment there, as I haven't heard very much live material from either band.

I probably wouldn't tire of Daltrey either, if he actually sang interesting melodies.
