The American Pink Floyd Show
I just saw The Australian Pink Floyd Show Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Well, not really. I just saw the American version of The Australian Pink Floyd Show. Let me explain. This is the sixth year for this band to come to the states. I catch several shows each year. This is the first year that there is not a single original member in the band to come here. No Steve Mac, no Jason Sawford, no Colin Wilson, no Paul Bonney (all still active members) and no Mike Kidson. Apparently they just don't want to come to the states. The only repeat for more than two years is Damian Darlington. Technically, this is a tribute band of a tribute band! Are the still good? Absolutely. Are they as good as the original TAPFS? In my opinion, absolutely not. Steve Mac is incredible as is Paul Bonney, Jason Sawford, Colin Wilson and Mike Kidson. If you are in the states and want to see the "real" aussies, you need to buy the dvd's. To the average person going to see the show, this might not be of concern. But I can't help but to be disappointed. I will definately cut back on going to see them. All is not bad, I will see The Machine tomorrow night (excellent band) and Wish You Were Here Saturday night (another excellent band). Cheers to all, AHF

RE: The American Pink Floyd Show
Who cares? They are a cover-band! Why do you think they call it "show"?
Quit acting like they wrote these songs and are better than the real Floyd. They are a show. A performance. A copy. A tribute. Not a true true band that writes their own music.
And whoever those guys were, they did a killer job! Since they are not Pink Floyd, who cares who is in the band as long as they are good?

RE: The American Pink Floyd Show
There are many non-tribute bands that do not write their own music. Yet those bands are "true true band(s)." There are many members of bands who are not involved in the songwriting process. Yet those non-songwriting members are members of "true true band(s)"
I'm not saying that any Floyd tribute is better than "the real Floyd" (a concept which, in itself is subject to serious debate, e.g., it's not Floyd without Roger, it's not Floyd without Syd . . . ). However, there are many examples of artists taking songs written by others and making them "better" than the original (which, of course, is a matter of opinion). Can you say "All Along the Watchtower"?
If someone has the opinion that a tribute band is "better than an original," that's their right. It's your right to disagree with such an opinion. Here on the Tribute Bands and Covers forum, everyone is free to act like they think their favorite tribute is better than the original or any other tribute for that matter (or not) -- that's why we're here

RE: The American Pink Floyd Show
The Aussies is a touring show, they are on the road pretty much all the year round. The same members, apart from Damian, who appears to be superhuman, just can't do it all the time. If they tried they would be absolutely knackered and be putting on very lame shows indeed.
In my opinion, the lineup on this year's North American tour is extraordinary. I really don't think audiences across the pond get short changed in any way. I flew 4,000 miles from the UK to see 2 shows last year, and having seen the YouTube clips, I wish I could do it again this year.

RE: The American Pink Floyd Show
This year's show was a disappointment.
In the press release announcing the US tour, they stated that there would be more lasers and more inflatables. There were neither. In fact, there weren't any lasers at all.
The stage show seemed like a re-hash of the 2007 show with the only thing added being animations of the kangaroo changing records in between.
The lighting and effects weren't all that great. And, like I said, no lasers.
I paid about $15 more per ticket this year (bought four), but feel like I got less.
I have been going to their shows since 2007, but feel this was my last.
