Interesting Pink Floyd claim to fame
I live and work on the former first World War battlefields of France and Belgium. Last weekend I was guiding a tour over the battlefields for a group who come every year to me. On this tour there was a new guy amongst their midst who was on the tour as his Grandfather had fought in WW1. During the evening we would sit around and have a few beers and chat away. I was talking to one of the group, a Floyd fan, about Roger Waters' Grandfather who was killed in WW1. The new guy, Mike Ashdown, pipes up and says "Are you chaps Pink Floyd fans? for I have a great claim to fame!" It turns out the new guys father in the late 1960's was a concert promoter in the south of England and organised a concert which the Pink Floyd headed up (1968 i think) at Lewes in Sussex. Being the concert promoters son, Mike was with his father in the dressing room prior to the show with the band members and on the dressing room piano played a little music with Rick Wright! It was at the time just before the departure of Syd, so all were there including the newbie, Dave Gilmour. Mikes father still has one of the posters from the event which is inscribed with the signatures of Syd, Roger, Rick, Nick and David. Mick was very honest with us, as we sat open mouthed at this revalation, and told us that the Pink Floyd were not his type of music, but he relised the enormity of what he had done and seen, as a young boy many years ago, last year when Rick died. Needless to say, I sat in awe!

Androkles,
Rogers Dad did fight and die in WW2, but his Grandfather (Rogers dads father) fought in WW1 with 256 Tunnelling Company of the Royal Engineers. His Grandfather, George Henry Waters, was killed in action in September 1916 near Arras, France. I visit his Grandfathers grave often, and last year on a trip to Italy managed to see his Fathers name on the Anzio memorial at Monte Cassino. Roger is actually named after his Grandfather, George Roger Waters, but only uses Roger Waters.

Kimbers sheep,
I guess so, Mike reckoned it was about 1968 which makes sense with Dave being with them.

Smooth. Cool story. I used to work at a club where the doorman / bouncer reckons he met Syd & Roger in a London pub around 1967/68. I was never sure whether or not to believe him.
