Apparently there is a technical reason behind the choice. Found this by someone from the Royal Mail "Why no Dark Side of the Moon? We did wish to have this album on a stamp, but it was 'too black', and the operational equipment that sorts mail would not have been able to 'read' the phosphor that is overprinted, and hence would have rejected the mail.
