Richard Wright vs George Harrison
Has this ever come up to anybody? I just realized Richard and George are very alike in their personalities. Both insanely competent musicians, but always a bit in the background, mostly filling in the songs of their bands' songwriters. Both have totally lovable voices, and the few songs they compose, are among the best.

Am I wrong when I want to call Richard "The Silent Floydian"?

I think that's a great observation. Both musicians were intregal to the bands sound and they seemed content with other members being in the forefront. Its interesting that Rick's hammond organ really defined the early Pink Floyd sound whereas George's greatest contributions, at least in my opinion were toward the end. One thing for certain though is that each band needed their style and musicianship. They were really the soul........

As another parallel, both sang background most of the time, and both sang one song on their premiere albums. (George - Do You Want to Know A Secret, Rick - Astronomy Domine)

I miss them both. :C

Hmm, George sang two songs on Please Please Me. He also did "Chains"... And Rick also did part of Mathilda Mother on their premiere album. So actually sang two songs both. :P

I think it's a fair comparison. Both were important components of their bands' sound, and you almost can't visualize the songs without them. I also agree that both were rather quiet/low-key people and let more out-there band members get the spotlight.

That's true. Although George's time to shine was generally at the end of The Beatles' era. His bass guitar playing on Let It Be makes it one of the best albums ever, in my opinion. Just listen to Two Of Us and Maggie Mae... Such versatile talent.

George Harrison was a great rock guitarist, singer-songwriter and film producer. Harrison became part of The Beatles when they were still a skiffle group called The Quarrymen. Richard Wright was a great pianist, vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter. He was best known for his career with Pink Floyd.

Now that's the kind of insight we like here!
