RE: If Syd hadn't gone mad....
Harsh maybe, but it's my opinion. I've never cared for that era of the band's history, aside from maybe a couple of songs. It just has no appeal for me. The stuff they did about Syd was IMO, better than anything they did with him. I understand that it does have a certain appeal, and for some people that appeal is what they like, but I've just never been one of those people.

Like I said, they're very emotionally exhausting. And whatever Syd was doing, he had the fun-drama balanced out.

I'm not much of a Syd fan and I'm pretty sure that hadn't Floyd gone on to greater things he would have been forgotten.

However, if he hadn't lost his mind, I think he'd have left the music scene and become a painter instead. Or maybe he'd have teamed up with David instead.

I know. I didn't mean to say the post-syd era was bad. It's fantastic. But, it's very exhausting to listen to. And, it's really hard to listen to a song without getting pulled through the whole album.

I don't understand how the music is "exhausting" to listen to. Perhaps something is lost in the translation.

"Exhausting" might be the wrong word, but I think I know what Joe means. Pink Floyd's music goes very deep, and is able to really captivate your attention, like a good book does too. Syd's music wasn't like that.

Yes, that's what I meant. And, also the fact that they're very dramatic. Pink Floyd is not a band you can listen to while you brush your teeth, or while you're talking to a friend. It's a thing to be done apart. Maybe, it's just me. Music tends to really affect my behaviour, and the way I see things.

I do think that you can listen to Pink Floyd while doing other things, but you'll certainly miss part of the experience. Hell, I listen to Pink Floyd while I'm studying. :P

Yeah, I tend to do that, and then I get carried away and stop studying. But, yeah, you get the point. I get so involved with the music, and it becomes tiring to go through all the phases an album presents...especially The Wall. Listening to The Wall really tires me.
