Roger is a great lyricist, absolutely. But let's not pretend he didn't write some naff lyrics as well. I mean, "Breathe, breathe in the air, don't be afraid to care"? "We don't need no education"?

While Roger is the overall better lyric writer, they both had some big hits and some big misses. No one's perfect.

We don't need no education...I never thought about that. We don't need 'no' education...interesting.

...our minds shot together.

It's a double negative. I get the point he was making by using the double negative, but it's such sh!tty English that I can't stand it. I hate the song anyway, but that's one part of it.

Yeah, Gilmour, Samson, and his other writing partners were nowhere as good as Roger when it came to ideas and imagery ("Was it the hand of fate that seemed to fit just like a glove?" Really?), but some songs such as Learning to Fly, Sorrow, Coming Back to Life, and High Hopes really stand out lyrically.

Musically, though, it's a totally different story.

Out of that list, the only one I like is Coming Back to Life, really. Something I find very typical in Dave's lyrics is that his words are beautiful, but there's absolutely no structure throughout it. Learing to Fly is, I think my all-time favourite song when one-liners are concerned (basically each line in that song is a jewel), but there's absolutely no coherence. You could throw the lines around and put them in a completely different order without changing a thing about what's said, because there are no two lines that are connected to each other in any way at all...

And uh, Sorrow? Then I definitely prefer "Don't be afraid to care."

Musically, it's a different story indeed. It's nearly impossible to say which of the two is better, since their areas of expertise are different. Roger is a composer, Dave is an arranger.
