Glastonbury 2011
Any chance David gets an invitation to play this year? and if he did, would he even accept?

I remember a few years back that Rick really wanted to play another outdoor event but the organizers wouldn't extend an invitation or something along those lines.

He appeals to so many people and age groups, you'd think he would be a huge draw.

I remember what you're talking about -- Rick had wanted he, David, and Nick to play Glastonbury I think back in 2006 or 2007, but they wouldn't bump someone else off the bill to make room for them. Or at least that's how the rumor went.

I do think it would be awesome if David did it, maybe a combination of his solo stuff, a couple Pink Floyd tracks, and maybe a new song or two. Or, he could do the show with The Orb and have a live performance of Metallic Spheres. Now that would be awesome.

It would be even more awesome if David would cover a song or two of Rick's.

Obviously the headliners have already been announced now (disappointing lineup imo) but I don't think David is really headliner material anyway. Not quite big enough.

R. I. P Rick Wright (28/07/43-15/09/08)

Honestly, the majority of people that go to Glastonbury now would probably not know who David Gilmour is. Pink Floyd definitely, but Gilmour no. It's a shame, but that's the way it is.

I know you're right, but I'm going to go weep in a corner all the same.

My brother-n-law, who is in his late 60s now, likes the old 50s and 60s doo-wop music, although he enjoys Pink Floyd and Zep and the like, enough to own and listen to their albums and be conversant about them. A few weeks ago we were talking about Floyd and I mentioned I had the "new" Gilmour in concert DVD. He said, "who's David Gilmour?" I couldn't even look at him anymore. (Related: He called me on the phone the other day and asked me, "I remember Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham, but what was the name of Zep's guitar player?" Maybe he's just getting old and forgetting the important things in life.)

No I definitely can't imagine him fitting into the sort of lineups at Glasto. Maybe Isle of Wight?

Call me a safe bet,
I'm betting I'm not.
I'm glad that you can forgive,
I'm only hoping as time goes
You can forget.
