Ummagumma w/o the Gigi cover
On my copy of Ummagumma the Gigi cover is blanked out, it's just a white square. From what I've read they did this for copyright reasons on the first American issue. Did they do this on any of the later issues or is it the first pressing I have?

The earliest American pressings have the Gigi cover intact, but later pressings have it airbrushed out to show just a plain white cover. The Gigi cover was restored for the CD release.

Ok, so this might be anything from an early pressing to a mid 80s one?

If you know what country the album was made in, you can check the matrix numbers against the known matrix numbers for all pressings of the album to find out when it was made. I couldn't tell you without the country it was pressed in and the matrix numbers, but if you want to look that up yourself, you can go to the site I'm linking below. My guesstimate would be that it's a later pressing, probably in the 80s.

Thanks. I checked the archives and couldn't find it. I'll try again later. Must have missed something. Having kids is great and all but they sometimes distract you from the important things in life. Like finding out what issue of Ummagumma you own. ;-)
And one more question. Did they blank out the Gigi cover in any other country than the US?

Yeah, in Canada the cover was airbrushed white like in the United States, and in Australia, the whole thing was airbrushed out, so all you see is the wall behind it.

Well mine has the plain white cover leaning against the wall, so it must be the US or the Canadian version then.

This must be the mysterious secret version, because I can't find it at the PF-Archives and a google search on one of the matrix numbers gave me this Italian site where it almost matches the US 6th edition. Three out of four matrix numbers are correct, but side 3 doesn't match my copy. Confusing. http://digilander.libero.it/mrpinky/ummagumma_usa.htm (The one I'm referring to is listed at row three on the 6th edition release)
I can also add that the label clearly states that it's manufactured in USA, so it must be one of the US editions.

PF-Archives aren't always 100% accurate. I've got a few albums that match up 80% or 90% if you will, but you can get an idea where they fall in terms of pressing.
