Syd Barrett Vinyl
well, i know i haven't posted in quite awhile, but "Here I Go".
Okay, so Im currently on vacation in Montreal and while I was here I went down to a local record store called "Beatnic" or maybe "Beatnik" (not sure). I was checking all the stores in town to see if they had any Syd Barrett Solo albums on vinyl and this was the last one on my list.
Ill put this long story in Bold so you can skip it if you want.
Just for Recaps sake Im going to tell you why I am using time in Montreal to find Syd Barrett albums. I have been searching for something with Syd that can be played using a stylus for about a year now, and everytime I get thisclose to getting one, it slips right through my grasps. When I first went to my favorite record store in Sanford, I was on the prowl for Meddle and Wish you Were Here on vinyl. At the time, I thought these were hard to find locally, obviously I was wrong since Ive seen hundreds of them ever since I bought my copies. While I walked through the cramped corridors of the store, I saw a little double album with the words "Syd Barrett" written on it with a picture of a man meditating on the cover and a 19.99 price tag in the corner. I had heard of Barrett but was unfamiliar to his music, I said to myself "I should pick that up next time Im here". Suffice to say, the next time I came there I was unable to find it again. The most agravating thing about this was that, he had not sold it, he still had it, he just had no idea where it was. Me and him looked for four hours, but to no avail. That particular copy still haunts my dreams, because I know its still in that shop.
Since then I tried to go to another store, which i hadnt really gone to before because it doesn't have a huge selection. I asked the owner if he had a copy of any syd barrett things, he said he just sold a double LP yesterday . When record store day came around I was excited for the "Introduction to Syd Barrett" vinyl to come to my local store. Obviosly this store would have it, because A. I asked ahead of time and B. the store im talking about is Bullmoose Music, which for those who haven't heard of it, invented record store day, literally. I came at eleven thirty. they open at eleven. and after only thirty minutes they were sold out of Syd, and they started with 8 copies! on the plus side though I did get "The Doors" vinyl for 8.99 new.
So as you can tell Im quite peeved at my inability to find syd solos on vinyl. at Beatnik i finally got a copy of an Introduction to Syd on vinyl along with a british copy of Revolver by The Beatles. However I still really, really want his full solo albums on vinyl, cept Opel ( I dont care for that one too much). I dont care if they are the most common print, unofficials, or the more common double set (which I kind of Prefer) I JUST NEED TO KNOW HOW I CAN GET THEM AND WHY THEY ARE SO DAMN HARD TO FIND! They aren't THAT rare, in fact they are more Uncommon than they are Rare. Now, a sealed promotional copy of Radio K.A.O.S. and 12 inch Radio Waves single (also sealed) thats a bit rare, and i have those. So Please people if anyone, and that means you average Joe/Josephine, knows where or how i could get his solo albums ( in Maine) then please drop me a tip. also if you would like to give some input as to why they are so hard to find, i would love to hear that too.
