Oh that is so funny and so sad because it is so true. Loons like Roger, me, and anyone else that is so critical of lyrics (i.e. has the mindframe to overanalyze things to death) must be introverted in a way, I guess. Plus, Roger fits the description of introvert - and I quote from the man himself:

"As a young man, I was that guy dressed in black, standing in the corner and scowling, lighting a cigarette and sort of giving out that 'don't come and talk to me' vibe. It wasn't that I thought I was too cool. Actually I was scared shitless . . . of rejection, I suppose. So I would hide away behind this cloak of irony. I was sardonic and witty, but rather sharp with it. But I'm more open now, more trusting of my fellow man, and particularly of audiences that come to hear my songs. Now I feel safe in that environment."

Well I could totally relate to that! I love Rog so much because he can totally immerse his listener in another world, in another set of shoes, really. He knows how to write in a way that people can relate to easily (if you're of similar mindset, of course).

I don't even know if all of what I said even made sense. But the bottom line is:

"If I show you my dark side, will you still hold me tonight?
And if I show you my weak side, what would you do?"

The Final Cut is beautiful!
I'm totally understanding you. I feel the same way. I love Roger's lyrics, though they're personal to him, I can relate especially to the line you quoted from The Final Cut...

.ugh! He is so brilliant! Why can't I find a man like that who's my age ??? :;):

P.S-My favorite line of his is..."And no one kills the children anymore" so powerfully delievered (I love his vocals) and such a wonderful dream...if only we could make it reality.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

YES!!! There are none! He is intelligent, has a very strong, dominant personality, yet is so vulnerable (if you pay attn. to many of his lyrics, you will see a Rog totally opposite of the evil scary diabolical maniac that he is presented as)...verrrrrry verrry passionate...ok I could go on about him forever. Sorry, I need a life =)

And I totally love that line ("No one kills the children anymore..."). Very touching song, one of the best ones (in my opinion) on the whole album.

And about his singing...a lot of people describe it in many colorful terms (such as, a cat with a nasal whine getting beat..I'm serious, my friend used that phrase)..but am I alone in liking it? I think it goes back to the emotion behind his words. He puts his heart into singing, and it's not exactly perfect, but because his full feeling is there, it makes it 10,000 times more beautiful then a cool voice singing whatever lyrics.

I say Amen to that rocker

P.S His vocal rock, listen to Live in The Flesh, they're good live or studio.

I have the In The Flesh DVD, and the vocal situation just tripped me out at first. His voice was sounding somewhat shot on KAOS, then sounded totally shot on Amused to Death. But miracalously it came back with age? Cause he sounded great live. Ah another mystery of life...

Not to get far off topic, but I heard he was going for the sound he produced on Amused To Death, trying to be like Dylan. Anyway I like his vocals on that record with the exception of Perfect Sense, but then here him live he's great...

There's been a bit of discussion on other topics concerning The Final Cut so I thought I'd bump this topic back up. Share your opinions, and give support or an explaination, not just "The Final Cut suck man.." you know what I mean.

The Final Cut certainly does NOT suck...

Just listened to Two Suns in the Sunset like two seconds ago and it's great...the whole album really is...

of course it does not suck!

the people who don't like tfc just don't understand the record!
that's it.
they lead a superficially life, don't think a lot.
what do you want to expect them to do?
start thinking?
don't exhaust you, it won't help anything, explaining them, how great TFC is, because to understand you, they had had to change their whole way of thinking....
and that's imposible.
lost souls. that's what they are.... :(

I am sorry but because someone dislikes the lackluster musical presentation for the lyrics of songs that the band collectively rejected for the wall I see no reason why the were released again. I've read interview transcripts from Dave where he says he asks Roger why release tracks that were denied for the Wall. "If they weren't good enough for the wall then they aren't good enough now" And I guess this was the final straw (no pun intended) for Dave.

I think in away that's sad that Dave wouldn't just let Roger sing what he felt was important. I mean the album was a very personal and important album to Rog. It's like if you have something important you need to say, but your friend won't let you, it's just annoying. I think it all comes down to the politics of the album, I don't Dave is as far leftist as Roger is, and that might be part of the problem. I've never seen Nick's view either way though.
