This was the one album that let me down, it sounds like a roger solo album to me, just my opinion.

It is a lot like a solo album of his, but then I absolutly adore Roger and all of his work, with and without the rest of the band, so I find it brilliant and my favorite. The Final Cut isn't an album that most like for the Floyd sound, but if Roger's writing then it one of their strongest I think.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Def one of my favorite top 3 albums

#1 song "The Final Cut"

If you are a true Floyd fan in my eyes you can appreciate all the albums that Pink Floyd as a band and it's members solo produced. However there are soo many changes that floyd went through in the 20-30 years they played losing members and what not, it is REALLY hard to put one album up against another album that was made 10-15 years prior...it would be like comparing ACDC to Rage Against The Machine, both being great bands but really it's is just to long of a timespan to compare the two. I absolutly love listening to The Final Cut, for it's music and mostly for the words, but I also love to hear syd's old stuff as well as more mainstream, obscured, Meddle and DSOTM.

I mean, who cares about rating the albums and picking them all apart cause really all that matters is, Floyd made great music the whole time they were in existance no matter who the lead singer/songwriter was.

Just my .02

1.The Gunner's Dream
2.The Final Cut
3.The Fletcher Memorial Home
4.Not Now John
5.The Post War Dream
6.Your possible Pasts
7.Two Suns in the Sunset
8.Paranoid Eyes
9.One of the Few
10.Southampton Dock
11.When The Tigers Broke Free
12.Get Your Filthy Hands off my Desert
13.The Hero's Return

I agree it is a dark album, but it is a nice change for me. I am more of "Dave" guy myself, but even I appreciate powerful lyrics and the dark, unbelievable emotion Roger has in his voice during the entire record. Truly, an underrated album! :;):

I would go as far saying that the Final Cut is my favourite Pink Floyd album!
the brilliant, sharp, deep lyrics.
the real good music, rogers spirit, his way of expressing his feelings.
INCREDIBLE!
especially two suns in the sunset. Great, just great.
it's really hard to describe the songs, that appear in the album.
you gotta FEEL it!
it's the same with rogers ca ira.
another piece of music you just have to feel to understand it.

@sydney:

well, another time you have epxressed exactly the same thing I felt absolutely the same! thanx!
the lines from the final cut:

"And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?"

it deals with lonelines, the hope, to be loved, with all the problems, you have as a human being.
I don't want to go too far, but I suppose roger to have had depressions or similar feelings too.
well, from time to time I'm depressed and sad, too.
and as i first heard the lines i cried.
I cried because I recignized myself, my bad situation, lost of help and warmth.
the same in the lines from "two suns in the sunset".
roger touches the souls of his listeners.

and that's another aspect, the fans from Pink Floyd have to see:
the final cut is an album, which is not made especially for the fans.
it's made for roger and especially for his father.
maybe there are public aspects(flakland, thatcher afghanistan, begin).
but the most deals with the gunner and the war, rogers father was in it.
i suppose the gunner to be his father, eric fletcher waters...
isn't "when the tigers broke free" on the Final cut reedition?
that song claimes rogers dad and judges the "high command"

you gotta open your mind, your soul to the lyrics and the music, and maybe you have to feel the same, roger might have felt, as he wrote the songs.
depressed and lost of hope and warmth.
some can get behind the songs, and others stay besides.
and the ones, who can get behind, should call them lucky!

THANK YOU ROGER, FOR SUCH A GREAT, GREAT RECORD!!!

I agree that Roger made the album, not necissarily to get more fans or to impress fans, but more to share his emotions and his opinions about the world around him. I think that the album is so emotion, probably because it is so personal. Roger my have written it to express his own emotions but he ended up connecting with many, including myself.

As to thanking Roger for his brilliance...I second that! rocker

right.
okay, maybe it goes too far saying, that he wrote the album just for him and his father, but-- well...
simply the best songs, he ever wrote!

If you guys don't like The Final Cut, then why come onto a topic in which people are talking about how much they love it. No offense, but it seems you've got alot of time to waste... ???
