I can't say I find your association with The Nile Song and AC/DC very accurate; they're poles apart as far as music and meaning go. Though the vocals are a bit different from typical Floyd material, it still has its Floyd quality of eccentricity, unlike the stereotypical, mainstream stuff AC/DC produced. Written by Roger of course, it's a fairly good song. Also on the album Relics.
And who's the fool who wears the crown?

Nile Song rocks. Voivod does a pretty good cover of it too, as well as Astronomy Domine.

I agree with you, Metabog. "The Nile Song" sounds like an early heavy metal song. I was shocked when I first heard it. David's vocals are so hardcore. He just screams the lyrics! That just shows you what a talented vocalist he really is. That he could sing both "The Nile Song" AND a quiet song, such as "Goodbye Blue Sky", is remarkable. "Nile" has become one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, simply because it is so different from a lot of their other stuff.

Too bad AC/DC aren't metal. Too bad it doesn't sound like AC/DC in the slightest. I'd say its closer to Metallica or Black Sabbath. Even System Of A Down (who are very Watersian in influence) are very close to The Nile Song.
Also, many PF songs could easily be considered metal, albeit different kinds:
Astronomy Domine (Alt-Metal)
Lucifer Sam (Jazz Metal)
Bike (Pop-Metal)
Corporal Clegg (Pop-Metal)
The Nile Song (Heavy Metal)
Fearless (Pop-Metal)
Echoes (almost a prelude to 80s Monster Ballads)
Obscured By Clouds (Alt-Metal)
The Gold, Its In The... (Southern Metal)
Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety (Liquid Metal)
Welcome To The Machine (Liquid Metal)
Have A Cigar (Pop-Metal)
Dogs (Alt-Metal)
Pigs: Three Different Ones (Heavy Metal)
Sheep (Alt/Pop Metal)
In The Flesh? (Pop-Metal)
The Thin Ice (Monster Ballad)
Mother (Monster Ballad)
Empty Spaces/What Shall We Do Now? (Alt-Metal)
Young Lust (Heavy Metal)
One Of My Turns (Thrash Metal)
Another Brick In The Wall Part III (Thrash Metal)
Hey You (Alt-Metal)
Comfortably Numb (Alt-Metal/Monster Ballad)
In The Flesh (Pop-Metal)
Run Like Hell (Pop Metal)
Waiting For The Worms (Liquid Metal)
The Trial (Theater Metal)
Not Now John (Heavy Metal)
Learning To Fly (Pop-Metal)
Sorrow (Alt/Pop/Liquid Metal)
What Do You Want From Me? (Heavy Metal)
It sounds crazy until you really think about it but once you think about it it's clear as day. I've always felt that although its not the path they most often traveled, early Floyd could be seen as the direct father's of Metal.

METAL NERD!! :p
Yes. "Not Now John", "Run Like Hell", "Young Lust", "In The Flesh", etc., those are all really metalish songs. No, it's not Metallica, but it's definitely not "Love Me Do." :D

I do love metal...
Your right on with that analogy, but the chuckle at the end of your post makes it appear you dislike "Love Me Do".
It occurs to me if the guitars were kicked just one amp up, the drums a little more aggressive, and the vocals a little juicier The Wall would be a straight metal album
Whoa. For a second there, the board just stopped. And I don't mean it said that the topic was moved, I mean my screen actually said that the ikonboard had DIED!

I don't dislike "Love Me Do", it's just that it's about as far away from anything metal, as you could get. So squeaky clean. And yes, The Wall definitely shows signs of metal potential. Right from the beginning, with "In The Flesh?"
