I don't have such detailed stories as most of you, still got some way to go to make true memories of The Floyd, but here's how it is.

I was quite picky when I first got into Floyd. My music odyssey began in middle school when I first discovered The Who. I listened to them almost exclusively for about 2 years, collecting every album, refusing to listen to other bands.

I then decided to give The Beatles 1 CD a shot because their reputation drew me in. They finally got me with The Beatles Rock Band video game and I got the remastered set for Christmas and listened for half a year of exclusively.

Then finally, the summer of 2010 I was back in my home country of Poland and was listening to The Who and Beatles when out of curiosity the CD of The Wall caught my eye at my uncles. I was usually wary of trying new cd's but something felt right about just the look of the CD. I at that point only knew Money and how to play it on Bass (love the instrument) and that my dad bragged about how floyd's dark side stayed on the charts for 15 years. Anyway, I borrow it, and I listen...and listen...and listen. I then viewed myself as a bit of a loner, and I liked these sad albums with a "happy ending."

Anyway, I practically listened to only the wall that summer, also finding there The Division Bell and Dark Side of the moon. Loved Dark side, and it took half a year to love the division bell. By a happy chance of perfect timing, the Wall tour was just starting and I got tickets and had the night of my life that December.

Anyway, I don't think I'll find a band like The Floyd ever again that manages to do everything right and which has a discography that I can't find a bad song in. I have moved on from The Who, to The beatles, and then to Floyd, but honestly I don't know where to go from here. I have every album, am collecting vinyls and I just love them, can't imagine what I'd do without them, and can't wait to form a lifetime of memories with the band. Plus nothing brings me more joy in life than introducing them to my friends and blasting them in the car, singing (badly) at the top of our voices.

...now if they would just release the Delicate Sound of Thunder DVD and The Wall 1980 and 2010-12 Videos, my life would be slightly more complete Biggrin

Thanks for reading! Glad to be here.

Polishrocker93:

That actually is a pretty detailed story. We all found the music of Pink Floyd in a different way. I'm 45 and like you, sort of fixated on bands for long streches. When I was discovering music in my teens, Pink Floyd, The Who, Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Zeppelin......these are the bands that I started with. As I got older, I still loved those bands, but I discovered Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel etc......I expanded the type of music that I liked but never stopped loving those other bands if you get my drift.

Pink Floyd though, is the band that I never left. I too have all the vinyl etc, etc...........but what I really find interesting is all the live music that can be found nowadays. Search out the Pink Floyd era of 1970-73. Their live shows were electric.....

Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd. guitar

I've just discovered a very good Polish band called Riverside. Their biggest influence is actually PF. If you don't know them already you should check them out.

RE: How did you discover Pink Floyd?
I got the animals album as my first cd from my dad when I was around 8 years old. This paved the way for falling in love with the guitar.

pink floyd t-shirts - rock shirt shop offers plenty of unique pink floyd shirts, along with occasional rare concert t-shirts.
