Both two excellent versions of a totally awesome song, but I wanted to see what the general consensus among Floydians was. I know there are some really excellent bootleg performances, but I didn't want to complicate this poll.

I personally prefer the live Ummagumma version, it seems a little bit more real to me. But then again, that's just my opinion.

What do you huys think?

As much as I love the studio version, all live versions I've heard are more powerful, more eerie and i think Water's screams are more freaky. So I choose the ummagumma version; it was actually the first version I ever heard of the song, so the scream actually scared me when i had my headphones on :D . Good times.

live definitely. and not just Ummagumma. how about like EVERY live performance they did of CWTAE. just a great song. speaking of which ill listen to it now.

I think he re-gifted and then he de-gifted and now he's using an upstairs invite as a springboard to a Super Bowl sex romp!

Live version all the way!
Though I like it's other version of studio named 'Come In Number 51'.

As salt resolved in the ocean
I was swallowed in God's sea,
Past faith, past unbelieving,
Past doubt, past certainty.
Suddenly in my bosom
A star shone clear and bright;
All the suns of heaven
Vanished in that star's light.

I agree with the live versions; I especially like the "Ummagumma" one because the pacing to/from the climax of the piece is so well done.

In comparison, the studio version is too busy, and as a result not especially effective. Apparently, through repeated live performances the band realized that "less can be more."

On the Live version the screech is so great. But the live version is far superior. Santa

I prefer the live one, the scream on the studio one is weak compared to the live one, and the live one generally has a better feel to it.

Snake, history will never know what she did. No one will ever learn the truth. Her story... her debriefing... will endure only in your heart. Everything she did, she did for her country. She sacrificed her life and her honor for her native land. She was a real hero. She was a true patriot. ~ EVA re: The Boss (MGS3)
