I myself think that on WYWH Floyd kind of "sold-out" which is ironic considering the theme of the album but lets look at it this way:

Shine On--Its fantastic, but its also a bit typical. It follows the formula that had been successfull on Dark Side

Welcome To The Machine--Its got that heavy feeling that just isn't Floyd but was popular at the time.

Have A Cigar--Well its my favorite track on the album its the most blatant in form. Its very Zepplin-esque and has of itself that bluesy quality that every rocker in the 70s was doing.

Wish You Were Here--The Nashville Blues based melody directly indicates that it was made to be a pop success. This is very obvious to me.

Now, I'm not saying this is fact but it makes sense to me. Every album after Dark Side Of The Moon has gimmicks like this, especially The Wall (my favorite album ever, by the way) in which over half the record are in a radio friendly rock style that appeals to the masses.

I agree with you to an extent...I've always felt that Wish You Were Here was Pink Floyd's most "commercial" album. But it is in no way overrated...Shine On You Crazy Diamond is arguably their greatest extended soundscape (Rick in particular shines, no pun intended), and the title track is nothing short of brilliant.

Overrated and "selling out" are pretty strong words, ones which I would never apply to Pink Floyd.

If it ain't dirty, don't clean it.

Sorry, that is not very nice. Although I do not agree with you, I can say i do not love some of the albbum, pretty much just Shine On and Have A Cigar, WYWH itself just bugs me.

I just don't know how you don't think it's a great album. Okay. It's commercialized. I'll give you that. I have heard every song on this album played on the radio. But it's certainly not more commercialized than DSOTM. Hell, a good amount PF's stuff is commercialized. No reason not to like it.

Anyway, getting back to the album. I think it's just beautiful and touching, even more so than Dark Side. I can't help but get teary during the title track. Shine On is possibly the greatest Floyd epic. The first part is very meaningful and has some great work by Rick and Dave. Roger's vocals are also top notch. Then on the second part, again, great work, meaningful lyrics, and a great jam session to finish it off. Then you got your heavier-oriented songs to balance the album out. WTTM has a very eerie feel to it and some great lyrics. Have A Cigar is probably the most radio-friendly track on this album, but still great. Great lyrics and great solo by Dave at the end.

What's not to like?

:Oo:

You're kidding right?

I LOVE WYWH! It is definently one of the best albums Pink Floyd ever did.

Shine On, Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, and Welcome to the machine are all beautiful tracks.

I enjoy the album, but I do see AC's point.

I don't think that old men ought to promote wars for young men to fight
