"Who was trained not to spit in the fan." - Dogs (Animals 1977)
I thought the infamous incident of Roger Waters spitting in a fan's face was during the Animals tour, obviously after the album was recorded.
This appears to be a reference to that incident but it seems strange to me that the reference would have existed before the incident happened.
Can anyone explain to me what this is about?

I believe "spit in the fan" is just a phrase, that was used in the song, that had nothing to do with the incident.
Actually, confusingly enough, there's a live bootleg of the Animals tour that i used to have that'd i'd like to get again, that was called
"Who was trained not to spit ON the fan"
Snake, history will never know what she did. No one will ever learn the truth. Her story... her debriefing... will endure only in your heart. Everything she did, she did for her country. She sacrificed her life and her honor for her native land. She was a real hero. She was a true patriot. ~ EVA re: The Boss (MGS3)

that boot is just another source from the July 6 show. its the same as the Azimuth Coordinator pt. 2, and is a really good show. it is strange that that line was in there, but i dont think they're related.
I think he re-gifted and then he de-gifted and now he's using an upstairs invite as a springboard to a Super Bowl sex romp!

Yeah, I think the "fan" in dogs is in reference to an electronic fan that has spinning blades that cool people.

I just bought a nice fan the other day. Galaxy brand. My room is much cooler now. Except I heard that using a fan during the summer may cause weight gain....
On a related note, that is a twist of irony, but not planned.

Y'know, for all these years, I never caught the irony of that line. I was thinking of "fan" in terms of "machine" not "person," so it never occurred to me that on the tour for that album, Roger would end up spitting ON a fan of the human variety.
Obviously, the song preceded the incident, and I'm sure "in the fan" refers to a machine, not a person. The whole thing is very likely a complete coincidence, though the bootleg title that 3 Different Ones refers to is probably a deliberate pun.
Or, maybe there was something sublimable going on in Roger's mind with "spitting" and "fan"!

What song were they playing when Roger spat at the fan? It would be pretty creepy if they were playing Dogs, especially if they were playing the last verse at the time.

I'm thinking that I read that it was in the second half of the show towards the end, so well after Animals had been played. Don't take any stock in that though cause I only think that I rmeember that haha.
