you guys probably have already gone over all this, but i was reading over the booklet for the Echoes collection and realized that there are several things i'd liked to have been different. They are as follows:

1) Only two songs from Lapse of Reason and Division Bell should be inlcuded

Learning to Fly belongs I guess and maybe one from Division Bell, either Keep Talking or High Hopes (not both) but Sorrow and Marooned have to go. they're simply not the best of Pink Floyd.

2) Great Gig in the Sky??

it's a great track when in the context of the Darkside of the Moon but i don't think it should have been included in the collection. it takes up room that could have been used for other popular rock radio songs like Welcome to the Machine or Run Like Hell.

3) When the Tigers Broke Free

for hardcore fans, this was a nice treat as it was never released on CD prior to this. but for the newbies, there are SEVERAL songs from the Wall that would have been better suited. Young Lust and Mother to name a couple

that all being said, i think it's a good collection for people just getting into Floyd. Some hardcore fans may have wanted something from Obscured by Clouds (Free Four would fit nicely) or Atom Heart Mother but i think it gets the job done. including four Syd songs was a great idea i think. including FIVE songs from Momentary Lapse and Divsion Bell was not.

I have many issues with Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd. Granted it's hard to make a definitive best of for such a great band, but what we got wasn't very satisfying, to me, and that's why I haven't (and probably never will) buy it.

Here's how I'd do this, and btw tracks in bold are the ones i'd cut

CD 1
1. Astronomy Domine (4:10)
2. See Emily Play (2:47)
3. The Happiest Days Of Our Lives (1:38)
4. Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) (4:01)

Cut for Young Lust, and Mother
5. Echoes (23:31?) - needs to be full version
6. Hey You (4:40)
7. Marooned (2:03) - doesn't belong on a best of
8. The Great Gig In The Sky (4:40)
9. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (5:20)
10. Money (6:30)
11. Keep Talking (5:58) - cut for obvious reasons
12. Sheep (9:46)
13. Sorrow (8:46)

CD 2: 78:30
1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-7) (17:32)
2. Time (6:48)
3. The Fletcher Memorial Home (4:07)
4. Comfortably Numb (6:54)
5. When The Tigers Broke Free (3:43)
6. One Of These Days (5:15)
7. Us And Them (7:51) - Meh, there's already enough stuff from TDSOTM
8. Learning to Fly (4:51)
9. Arnold Layne (2:53)
10. Wish You Here (5:21)
11. Jugband Blues (2:46)
12. High Hopes (7:00)
13. Bike (3:25)

Now with all those cuts, here's how mine would go. (Note not all of these are my favourites, I'm trying toi be fair and represent every album)

A Saucerful of Songs 1967-1994

1. Astronomy Domine (4:10)
2. See Emily Play (2:47)
3. Summer '68 (5:29)

5. Time (6:50)
6. The Great Gig In The Sky (4:40)
7. Money (6:30)
8. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (5:20)
9. Corporal Clegg (4:12)
10. Dogs (17:08)
11. Pigs (Three Different Ones) (11:28)
12. Fearless (6:08)

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5) (13:40)
2. Careful with that Axe, Eugene (Live) (8:50)
3. The Fletcher Memorial Home (4:07)
4. When The Tigers Broke Free (3:43)
5. Mother (5:31)
6. Young Lust (3:31)
7. Comfortably Numb (6:24)
8. Have a Cigar (5:08)
9. Wish You Here (5:21)
10. If (4:30)
11. Arnold Layne (2:53)
12. Cymbaline (4:50)
13. What Do You Want From Me (4:21)
14. Jugband Blues (2:46)
15. Bike (3:25)

Bonus CD

1. Atom Heart Mother Suite (23:41)
2. Seamus (2:15)
3. Echoes (23:31)

Well any greatest hits album doesnt usually have the best songs just the most popular. And define 'greatest'.

This is why i usually just buy regular albums.

I put my greatest hits compilation into a playlist in Itunes, and am listening to it. I like it quite a bit, haha. It took a lot of work!

a best of for me would be what the group performed live the best, so i would have the awesome live stuff-Echoes, ASOS, Cymbaline, Careful, etc., but they wouldnt be able to make it because nothing is officially released. a best of with a live version of Pigs (3 different ones) would be ridiculously awesome.

I think he re-gifted and then he de-gifted and now he's using an upstairs invite as a springboard to a Super Bowl sex romp!

I think that if Dogs is left off, then it's not really a best of cd.

well, it was either dogs, or echoes. I chose echoes to get representation from Meddle, but since it doesn't fit, I'll probably knock echoes out in favor of dogs

I'd put Echoes on too....Seriously, two discs isn't enough.....a real best of Pink Floyd cd at minimum has to be 3 cds and that might not even be enough.

my one suggestion would be that it go in chronological order...I think 2 discs is plenty because its really for someone trying to get into the band, so it should have their well known stuff, and then some obscurer(??) stuff just to get a good idea of the band...a true fan like all of us probably wouldnt listen to a Greatest Hits because most people would prefer an album as a whole, but I think a complete Greatest Hits would also include a basic overview of the band's history to understand why they changed so much over time
