I cant take credit for this observation, and i dont know if you all already heard this, but on hey you, i think it refers to the sheep of animals, with the words "hey you, out there in the road always doing what youre told, can you help me."
I think it could actually fit in well with the songs theme.
Youre one of a kind. Just like everybody else.

Also in Hey You, the line that says:
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone
It makes me think of the part in Dogs that goes:
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone...
...Dragged down by the stone.

Yes Marixpress. It`s Dogs that Waters (& "Pink") identifies with the most.
That line is even closer to POTW Pt.2 - the second part of the love song written by Waters for his then-wife Caroline.
Compare the Hey You line...Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone....with....
You know that I care what happens to you,
And I know that you care for me.
So I don't feel alone,
Or the weight of the stone,
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone.
And any fool knows a dog needs a home,
A shelter from pigs on the wing.
Icy wind of night be gone...this is not your domain

2 other things from Hey You that I realized. I'm probably just trying to hard to find cameos but here goes :blues:
The high pitched DING on Echoes is also used in Hey You.
The words "hey you" are used in Pigs (3DO) - "Hey you Whitehouse, ha ha, charade you are"
:upside:

You can hear a lot of this noise in the Mind Your Throats Please section of AHM.

An even better Hey You - Dogs connection:
Hey You
Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Dogs
Who was found dead on the phone?
Who was dragged down by the stone?

The giggly laugh is actually a very stoned laugh by a man named Roger who was being interviewed for some reason or other...he was the biggest roadie in that time and had seen practically all the Pink Floyd shows, and smoked a ton of weed. His voice being used in Dark Side is interesting as Syd apparently smoked a lot of pot, and Rogers laugh was used in the song about insanity that referenced to Syd...interesting.

Whenever I hear the "ping" from Echoes in Hey You, I get goosebumps.
Also, and this is slightly off-topic - I love how they used the whale noises from Echoes in "Is There Anybody Out There?". The part in Echoes where the sounds appear give off a sense of isolation and loneliness. This is exactly the theme of Is There Anybody Out There? and so those sounds are used again in this track, again, giving off a sense of isolation and also serving as a link to previous Floyd work which is very common for them. Absolute genius.
