Dogs of War, Sorrow and On The Turning Away are great.

Lost For Words, High Hope, Wearing The Inside Out, A Great Day For Freedom and sometimes What Do You Want From Me are good to great.

I don't think that old men ought to promote wars for young men to fight

I definitely prefer The Division Bell over A Momentary Lapse of Reason although both are great. I consider AMLoR to be more of a Dave solo album than PF, since it's just Dave, Rick on a few tracks, and all session musicians. TDB used session musicians as well, but not to make up for a full-fledged rock band... on TDB, it was Dave, Rick, and Nick.

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason will always have a comfortable spot in my heart because I saw the band perform live twice on that supporting tour.
With a few good songs like Keep Talking, High Hopes and What Do You Want From Me, Division Bell is slightly subpar by comparison in my opinion.

RE: Floyd's two final studio albums - amlor vs division bell
Some love for Dogs Of War in this thread... That's quite new to me. It usually seems to be Pink Floyd's second to most hated song ever (right behind Another Brick in the Wall, but that can be attributed almost completely to the passion Lady Floydian has against it :D). For me, that song (along with One Slip and A New Machine,) is the reason why I don't listen to AMLoR very often. I really don't want to drag myself through those songs, even though I think Signs of Life and Terminal Frost are two of Pink Floyd's best songs, and Learning to Fly is one of their best when singles are concerned.

Overall, I like TDB more, but even that one is very uninspired. Just too many 6 minute songs bloated with guitar solos. The album has very little variation in it, and it's hard for me to even compare the songs to each other because they're really quite similar. If you'd have taken one random song off this album and placed it on WYWH, it would probably have sounded mind blowing amazing, but this album is just a bit of a drag to me. The one song I really love from it is also one of Pink Floyd's best though: High Hopes.

RE: Floyd's two final studio albums - amlor vs division bell
I really like both, mostly because of their significance in the evolution of the band. Being a Gilmour fan it was awesome to see him stick it to Roger after all of his mis-deeds and legal pursuits after he quit the band.

Musically I find both departures from the old war stories to something more palatable and accessible to more people. Exactly the reason they were playing arenas while ol' Roger was in theaters.

All you have to mention is High Hopes and Learning To Fly along with all of the great other songs and the Gilmour era firmly takes it's place in history.

I love Roger's solo material too, it's better released under his own name, he should've started one album sooner! :-)

And now the final solution can be applied.

I also like both, maybe AMLOR a bit more because of the energy it emits, especially Dogs of War, blues rock at it's best.
But the melodies on TDB are great, some of the best PF ever came up with imo.
Sometimes I wonder if it could be that long time PF fans like the last two albums just because we grew up with the band. I mean, AMLOR was made by men in their forties, TDB by men in their fifties. I can easily see why people in their twenties don't get it. It's too subtle. Laughing
