I agree that The Wall has great vocals--Roger was at his peak at the time, and Dave was turning in some of his strongest singing, too. Too bad that Rick isn't in there, but Roger and Dave really did a good job.

The production is technically awesome, but it's kind of sterile and bland for my tastes--it's just too big and bombastic.

Dave's playing is great (on bass as well as guitar!), and Roger does a pretty good job on bass as well, but the rest of the playing is kind of bla. Nick sounds like he's in a drummer's coma, which might have something to do with the fact that he recorded his parts very early in the recording process, so he didn't really have a lot to play off of. It's a huge contrast with Animals, on which he did some of his best and most nuanced playing. As for the keys... There seem to be about as many keyboard players on The Wall as there were backing musicians on AMLOR.

The Wall was really where PF ceased to be a band per se and became instead a gigantic recording project, and that alone makes is considerably less interesting for me.

Having said all of that, it does have a lot of great material--I love the first and 3rd sides, and some of the songs on the 2nd and 4th side as well.
