d drop tuning

how do you tune your guitar to this and what is this point of this kind of tuning

you can just lower the botton 'e' dropped a step (two frets) to 'd'
It's good if your new to alt tuning as it gives a nice low drone with the d, whilst keeping all else the same
u are then able to easily play any song as you've only altered one string. try playing this chord: 550033 for a nice 'g'! rocker
works best either on an acoustic, or with a clean setting

Open D eliminates the practice of playing D chords using only 4 strings (i.e. without sufficient bass to make them sound as good as 6 string chords). Though you only tune down by 2 frets worth (1 whole note, 2 semitones), used well, especially in folky-picking stuff a la me, it can fool listeners into thinking you have a WHOLE OCTAVE extra at the bottom end, i.e. a bass accompanying you.

You can always "Drop D" (sounds great for playing songs based around a D chord surprisingly enough) but it's always best to drop the G string down a notch or two if you can.

just tune it to the low e to the d fret, that is 3 frets from the top
