How fast do you strum in songs? It just says the chord to play but it never says how many times to strum it until the next chord or how fast to be strumming it...
example:
G C D G
Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb?
G C D G
Mother do you think they'll like this song?
C G
Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls?
how many times do you strm G before C? How many times do you strum C? D? How fast do you strum them?
I'm new to guitar.

Believe me as someone who has played for many years, you have to change your approach right now. Don't think of there being any "right" number of strums exactly. Music is an art, not a science. Just listen to the record repeatedly until you get a "feel" for how it goes all the way through. When you've learned all the chords and listened to the song enough times for you to be able to "dream" it all the way through in your head, just pick up the guitar, dream the song, and let your hands follow what's going through your mind, and chances are it will sound almost as good as the record with a bit of practice.
Always like to hear of new people taking up guitar. All the best of luck to you.

You're right simps. When I learn a new Pink Floyd song, I just learn the new chords (if there are any), the basic chord progression, and play it as I feel it. I must say I'm not so skilled technically (not so good rhythm player), but I can improvisate a lot especially when playing over a CD. Good luck FloydianGP! Don't give it up if you can't do it right for the first time. It will all come.

That's what I do when I play. My strumming is probably a little off, but i don't care!

i use subtle, sparse and simple strum patterns
