lil help please? - concerning bends

hey guys. i just started playin about a year ago and recently ive been trying to play some bends.. when u guys first started did u have trouble like hitting other strings on ur way up and them ringing? cause that seems to be the prob. when i take the string down the others dont seem to ring but if i try upwards they produce sound..and if u did have probs like this does it go away after u practice them over and over?
