As some of you already know, I need an amp. I still don't have a good amp after all these months. I have been using my brother's cheap Crate practice amp. I recently went to Larry Morgan music store and got to hear my guitar's true sound, and I will tell you all it was unbelievable. I need an amp and have been saving all summer. It's about that time, and I was wondering what you all think would be the best amp to get. I have a G&L stratocaster and that's it, no other modifications. I am leaning towards a Fender because that's the sound I like. I just wanted to see what you guys think is the best type of amp to get for David Gilmour's sound.

Thanks.

What about the HIWATT range? They cater for a wide budget range and David uses them for his PF work.

Personally, i would getr a Fender Twin, though, but the price !!

How much are most HiWatts? I want an amp between $500 and $700. I was playing on a Fender Deville, and a Fender custom 65 at Larry Morgan. The custom 65 sounded better clean, but you can't have any distortion on it. Wouldn't you want to have the option of some distortion, especially for having David's type of sound?

i find it hard to believe that there is a Fender amp without overdrive / gain

There was no button to push to get distortion on it. If you used a peddle, that's different. I talked to a guy that worked there, and he even said to me, "You can't get any distortion on here without a peddle." Don't most Fender Amps not have a gain button on them? That's the impression I got, but I have no idea. I would hope most do.

Hmm, I've owned 2 Fender amps and they both have distortion/gain buttons, no peddles needed.

What kind of Fender 65 do you have? Is it one of the reverb amps or is it a different kind?
