just buy a new one, the difference will be negligable seeing as youve never played an original and you'll save yourself a lot of money.
Yeah you're right, there can't be that much of a difference. Plus there's no telling how the previous owner treated the pedal. Thanks for your help Ash. :;):

No that`s not quite true, there are some small diffrences.
I have the reissue, looks very simliar to the pedal on that picture, but if you use your eyes and you know what the reissue look like, you won`t mistake a reissue one for a vintage.
I found this on the guitartabs.cc forum:
"you have to look at the led section (RI's have it, and also real 80's(?) muff has the tone bypass mark up on the tone knob), the vintage one has a slider switch (two screws holding it) and adapter jack.
and RI's have an adapter jack only ...it has a tiny but noticible difference that one cannot mistake the other for.
not sure 100% about all of this info, you must check elsewhere
good luck"
By the way if you have a compressor and an equalizer, you can get the reissue to sound decent.
Yeah hard to save money on the reissue, when you need other pedals to make it sound good...

i played a reissue and an original next to each other and there were no massive differences in sound, the big muff pi sound was very present with both pedals.

Yeah but the vintage had more substain didn`t it?
That seems to be the main issue people are complaining about, the reissue didn`t contain enough substain/distortion.
Another matter is tast. I haven`t tried the vintage out.
I was very dissapointed when I got the reissue, I was expecting a very rich fat sound with alot of substain/distortion.
I needed an equalizer to boost the muff to get the sound I wanted.
And a compressor like for instance the MXR Dynacomp is essential to the big muff.
However, the pedal is very very good for solo, when boosting the signal with (for instance) an equalizer.
It is also very good along with the Electro-Harmonix`s Mistress Flanger.
