I suggest you purchase the effects you want individually. IMNSHO idividual pedals sounds better than the mass conglomoration of those digitech effects doo-hickies.

The type of amp to go with depends on the guitar. You want to compliment the axe as best you can. What model guitar are you using? For example, a strat goes very well with a Fender twin reverb amp, and a Les Paul goes well with a Marshal.

Welcome to the community BTW!

I have a 20watt Marshall practice amp that I used to play my Ibanez through and I had no complaints. Good sound.

Individual effect pedals are almost invariably of much better quality to those multi-effect pedal units. Analogue almost invariably sounds far better than digital, although many people swear by a digital delay pedal a la The Edge's classic late 80s U2 sound. Individual pedals are much more solid -- so many of those multi-effect units seem like flimsy plastic rubbish. If you need to stamp on it in a hurry mid-song while keeping to the beat you want to be able to rely on it. Multi-effect units come with hundreds of sound combinations (most of which sound pretty awful), whereas most guitarists can probably make do with no more than 2, 3 or 4 dedicated individual pedals (attainable for a fair price -- try eBay). Vintage analogue ones are quite rightly sort after for the Hendrix-Cream-Zeppelin sound.

I forgot about durability and Simps has an excellent point. You don't want some POS effects system that will crumble when you give it a mighty stomp. Pick good pedals, and you will be golden.

My starting setup is pretty basic but I had:

Ibanez electric
Marshall 20w Amp
Danelectro Chorus
Wah Wah
Boss Distortion
Danelectro Phaser
Danelectro Delay

i would recommened a blues crunch and a phaser

personally single pedals and floorboards are both good but i would go with multiple effects

and a small fender amp is good to start with
or mayb have a look at the
marshall mg15 series
