yah that's a really hard question to answer because musically they are very different people. once dave came in they sort of evolved a completely different sound from syd's. nevertheless i chose dave :upside: hard choice though

In my opinion David's a much better guitarist. He plays solos longer and the riffs he comes up with are more complex. Maybe Syd didn't like having the guitar up front like Gilmour but Syd is still quiet talented. All in all... Dave is more talented.

Syd is great and all, but David played a huge role in the Floyd, he's the reason Floyd was able to go on and make albums like Meddle,Dark Side,Wish You Were Here,Animals,The Wall. You listen to Syd play guitar on Piper and he sounds pretty good, but you listen to Dave on Saucerful and you can tell right away he's a much better guitarist. Do you really think Syd could have created a better sound for the Floyd on albums like Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and The Wall? No Way!! Syd wrote good lyrics, but they were a little too childish and pop. Both David and obviously Roger were much better at writing lyrics and they just carefully crafted such great albums. I don't think Syd could have done such things.

The Division Bell sucks, man.
lmao! I totally agree. Anyway, DG. Gilmour was just a better musician. It's as simple as that. Listen to Syd's stuff. It's good, but Gilmour's music is just more musical, and more original. If you know what I mean, because The Piper was more mainstream for the time.

Dave is (or was) of course a better GUITARIST than Syd, now songwritingwise that would be another thing :)

I respect your opinion, but it just didn't live up to the original Pink Floyd standards. There were a couple good songs, but it just wasn't Pink Floyd. Roger made a major contribution. Maybe not musically, but he made some incredible lyrics.

Anyway, yeah, Gilmour may be slowly going. His songwriting certainly isn't great, but like I've said before, 1977 was an excelleny year for Gilmour, so it pains me to say that he just isn't so great anymore. ('Cause I just loved his solo album.) I think he is still musically better than syd.
