Hi, I wonder how one can obtain a clean tone on high notes as well as some distortion on low notes (as in the fat old sun solo for example :when the sound is very clean on the high bends and yet a bit dirty or fuzzy when played on the low strings) ? I tried adding some distortion : it' s ok for the low notes but it's too much crispy on the high bends.
Do stompboxes like the over-expensive treble booster have to do with this kind of sound ?

I guess it's got something to do with the SPC and EGX systems with are built into his guitar. Or maybe some EQ settings?

FAT OLD SUN

Notes about Fat Old Sun
Fat Old Sun was performed live with Dave playing a Strat throughout the song. The song was extended with a long mid-section with a jazzy guitar/hammond jam.

Yes, saw it on gilmourish too.
After listening to the solo with the balance set to right (solo is panned right), it becomes obvious that there is always a bit of distortion (maybe from the bridge pickup + treble booster), even when he plays the upper bends

Keep in mind that with most types of distortion or fuzz, you can dig in a little more with your attack to get a little more dirt on the note, and vice versa.
