We all know that Dave was a maniac at setting his sound right.

My question is what pickups is he presently using on the Tuxedo strat ?
---------------------------------------------------------------
The notes I found was that he had setup the guitar in 1977 with a Dimarzio FS-1 in the bridge position... was it changed ? if yes, than back to what ? the notes I found basically stop at he installed it in 77 and used it all the way even during his Solo record.

I found notes saying he switched it around to a 69 - 71 set of standard pickups during the wall tour ... are they still in ?

I know he used EMGs during the PULSE tour, but I believe he went back to standard Strat pickups. The new issue of Guitar World talks about it :)

Here's a different question:

Has David used any electrics other than Strats?

RE: David Gilmour Gear:Which Pickups over the years ? - Dimarzio FS-1's ? Black Strat ?
From when dave brought the black strat in 1970 it had The stock fender pickups and a Gibson PAF humbumcker hidden under the pickguard. this was later removed. in 1977 prior to the recording of animals he removed the stock fender bridge pickup and replaced it with the DiMarzio FS-1 and it was also his bridge in the 1977 tour. he also recorded The Wallhammers with the dimarzio but he then replaced the bridge position with a Seymour Duncan SSL-1. this is still on today.

I don't know about Dave having an epiphone but he used a lot of Lap-Steels, a few telecasters, an esquire (The Workman Tele) and a Les Paul p-90 Goldtop. as well as the martins.

are there any non-expensive Hiwatt/Reeves/Sound City amps (or if there aren't any, just an amp with heaps of headroom?)

Wrong

Gilmour bought the guitar in 1970s in manny music
Before the black strat... he had another black stratocaster with a bullet rod neck

1971 he added a Gibson PAF humbucker between the bridge and middle pickup
he removed it later that year.

During the same year Phil taylor pulled the pickups out of his 1st black strat and shoved them in the pompeii strat / The Black Strat as we say it today.

In 1977 prior to the animals album recording Phil Taylor Installed a DiMarzio FS-1. It remained in the guitar throught the wall recording sessions and was replaced prior to the tour with the Seymour Duncan SSL-1 -- The SSL-1 was renamed SSL-5 as the SSL-1 was a prototype of what Seymour Duncan gave Phil Taylor prior to the main manufacture of the pick ups.

You were right about David not owning an Epiphone he just sticks to Goldtops.

The non-expensive version of Hiwatt/Reeves/ Sound City amps I would recommend the Peavey Classic 50s combo. It has a brilliant clean channel that is bright and warm and you can crank it at full blast and the tubes won't break, allowing the tone to resenate and produce a good tone.
