The US version of the December 2005 issue of Playboy Magazine has their annual Music Poll. In the associated feature, they interview certain musicians on their views of the current music scene, Roger Waters being one of them.

They posed him a few questions, looking at his view on the Live 8 reunion, and also modern music. Here's an extract of the article:

Playboy: Now that you and David Gilmour have reunited onstage, will you work together on an album?
Waters: I might be prepared to make a record, but there's no ******* way I'm going to argue with him about how to make it. It was horrible to have to fight with somebody about how to make Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. Of course, the results were spectacular.

Playboy: What do you think of bands such as Coldplay and Radiohead that are obviously influenced by Pink Floyd?
Waters: If I had some influence that gave people permission to be serious about what they did, to express their inner feelings and not give a **** about what anyone thought, to go for it in a passionate way that exposed their weaknesses as well as their strengths, then I couldn't be happier. Because so much rock and roll is posturing bollocks. You know, poodle rock, all that hair and tight trousers. I never had time for that crap. It's just bollocks.

Playboy: Did you like any of the bands at Live 8?
Waters: I don't mean to put down any of those bands, and maybe I'm totally biased, but I felt The Who and Pink Floyd were just better. When The Who came on and played "Wont Get Fooled Again," I just thought, wow. There's something extraordinarily powerful about the melody, the words. I watched a bit of Coldplay and thought they were very engaging and nice, but I haven't the faintest idea what the songs were about. Not the faintest idea.

Roger in Playboy, not posing but speaking, isn't as shocking as it would be if oh, Rick decided to allow them an interview. After all, he was in Mojo Magazine, and did have some rather agreeable views on the subject of pornography though I personally don't make a big deal of Roger sticking up for his beliefs. A brief but enlightening interview. Thanks for the post, AG.

And who's the fool who wears the crown?

Haha, great answer, Rog. :D

Actually, I HATE that answer!

But then, the question itself is as dumb as all get-out, since Coldplay (which IS posturing) does not deserve mention in the same breath as Radiohead.

But then, I have long found Roger's taste in current music to be as out-of-touch as my dad's, and I've learned to just accept that disappointment and still appreciate Roger's great work, especially 1970-1980.

I suppose when Thom Yorke is 60 years old, he'll be saying stupid things too. And so will I.
