tha is also his pompeii 70s
Dude..in EVERY one of those pictures is the SAME GUITAR!...It's the Black Strat he bought in late 70, early 71 brand new...and in every picture the whammy bar hasn't been trimmed down yet...so it was pre Phil Taylor working for the band/pre-reissue anything...I know the only change on the guitar BEFORE the bar was cut and neck changed was pickups..Seymour Duncan rewound hot pickups...The guitar was bought at Manny's in NYC..and Gilmour's been using that guitar since he got it and is STILL using it...the kid asked for some advise...you could have at least checked it out..IT'S NOT A 57...IT's NOT a REISSUE...GILMOUR USED THAT GUITAR MORE YEARS THAN ANY OTHER IN HIS COLLECTION..IT'S A STOCK 1970 FENDER STRATOCASTER....IF you WANT THAT SOUND..GET A 70's reissue and put SEMOUR DUNCAN PICKUPS ON IT.
GOOD LUCK
MIKE

Guitars is a personal choice..it's up to you..My feeling is the tone is in your HANDS!...I went w/ a Mex 60's classic...I put in Duncan Pickups..I love rosewood boards..but that's my choice..Gilmour plays Maple boards..
I am sure a 70's reissue with new pickups/shielding/pots..change the tone cap to a .22mfd gumdrop..polish and dress the frets..shorten the whammy bar...get a Hiwatt..Same setup Gilmour used 70-72..the blue "pompeii" guitar was the same setup as the black..that was just a 68, I think...that guitar was stolen that's when I believe he got the Black one(During a US Tour in May 1970 the bands equiptment was stolen in New Orleans..I don't think the "pompeii" guitar was ever found)...Still plays it!(Live 8)..only NOW it HAS a '57 reissue neck on it...(Still has the Semour Duncan Pickups)...you'll be there... Just my 2 pence!
Mike
