Hey all, I would like to get an amp or pedals or something. I will be on a budget so I know that means I will really miss out but I am trying. Simply I would like an amp that would work good to sound similar to On the Turning Away's guitar or maybe the The Wall's guitar. Yes I am aware how much that was distorted but give me a first step, like an amp recommendation. :D Thank you so much in advance.

Also, I am still new so I was wondering if this is an ok way to practice, I don't care about getting good fast, just enjoying myself. All I really do is start up a song and play notes however I feel them come to me. Usually I just duplicate the flow of the song, changing my speed.

Thank you for input.

you seem to think all the sounds of davids tone comes from his amps

wrong he uses a big muff pedal for his main distoprtion then andds eq aand most of his tone on on the turning away comes from his emg pickups the simplest wqay to recreate this sound would be to get a cheap amp i reccomend marshal or fender or hiwatt

hi watt is what david uses but they are very expensive but get either a cheap marshal or fender amp and buy a bigg muff pedal then your tones should sound somewaht like gilmour u may need to buy an eq pedal though as your big muff distrtion drive could sound really horrible this is due to the pre amp lacking dont worry you can easily sort these problems with eq and your amps mid and treble settings

That's all I've been doing for as long as I've been playing.

If you're on a real budget, consider Behringer amplifiers. Amazingly cheap and great quality, they use Jensen speakers which are the same Fender uses.

If you want Dave's tone, here's the pedal he uses that I highly recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Electro....02D0JUQ I recommend it, sounds pretty damn good. Has nice low end. This is my personal favorite pedal of all time though: http://zvex.com/fuzz.html

Maybe be a little bit more specific with what you're looking for. How much money are you willing to spend? What effects do you want (distortion, chorus, delay)?

I knew the majority of it came from his pedals, but my ignorance is still apparent :).

I will look into a cheap fender amp :)

Thank you for giving me specific items that is very helpful. I think I would be comfortable spending about $250 - $350 on a new amp and a pedal. Hopefully I'm not being an ignorant cheap ass, tell me if I am.

I will probably buy that muff pedal you showed me since pinkfloyfan said get one also :). In terms of an amp, I don't really want anything powerful(hell my 10w is loud enough for me :)), but I just want a good feature set and good quality. If you want to point me to a couple of specific amps that would be amazing :) and reassuring.

Cool, that's comforting. I love to play this way.

Thank you guys very much for the help.

I don't know the prices of amp's in your country, but here in Holland you won't get very far with $350,- for an amp. You could look for used ones and maybe get away with a nice one for little money. You should look for amp's that have a good clean tone, so you can use the pedals tone in all it's glory.

And about the playing....If you're enjoying playing this way, just go with it. :)

Yeah...well. Here in Holland you couldn't get a decent amp and a pedal for that amount of money. I know the Big Muff isn't that expensive (it's just $60,- or something). What I'm trying to say is you would need some more $$$ for a decent amp, tho I don't know the prices in the US.

Well USD I can get a Vox Valvetronix AD30VT 30W (more than enough power), with tons of features for about $240...

Is that reasonable? Or am I going to have trouble playing clean? Here is a marshall in the same price range:

Thank you again guys :)
