For all you six stringers out there (and four stringers too) which do you prefer? Not that I can afford either brand right now, though I am working toward a Telecaster.

Better yet, why don't we just talk about Fenders and Gibsons. I can talk about that all day.

gibson goes for the songs were a gibson sound would fit the best, a fender is good for music were a fender sound suits the song best :)
anyway for solo`s, fender strat is by far best in my opinion, great attack!

i own a Les Paul Classic and i am getting a Strat soon and i find it VERY hard to believe that a strat and surpass it....but if it does....wow..it'll be a damn fine guitar

Fender Strats/Teles. I find them far more comfortable than Gibsons. Gibsons are very heavy. That said, if you need tonnes of sustain and a nice crunchy tone, it's Gibson full steam ahead.

they're two different sounds, i think
i think gibson's have a cleaner distortion (if that even makes sense) ... i mean it has this clean, classic sound to it, very intense

fenders just have this interesting sound, i can't explain it. they're both really amazing guitars, but i've always been partial to fenders, don't know why. i think they suit a broad range of styles, more so than gibsons

IMHO..Teles are workhorses...Strats are "touchy" like if everything is right they can't be beat, but if you're "off" the guitar just isn't right...Gibsons are all the same...everybody sounds similar on a Gibson...I personally LOVE my Strat, and everybody sounds different on it, but if things aren't right i grab my LP and I've just gotten a old LP junior 1 P/U P90 and I'm starting to use it for everything...( My strat has "blocked bar" like Claptons)

I prefer Fender for nice old school rock and roll kind of stuff.

When ever i think of Gibson i think of epic tunes. Led Zeppelin. Which is awesome as well
