I use a Strat more often than a LP. The feel is very nice and the sound is great.
But then again, when I pick up one of my LP's I suddenly know why they're called the "fretless wonder".
I think they're both amazing guitars...

Fender has more of that blues sound to it. Would SRV still have his good sound with a Gibson? Yes and now, fender always seemed cleaner to me.

Gibson Les Paul-much smoother, more sustain, beef. I like the weight, heavy lowslung guitars just feel right.
Fender Strat-more responsive, more clean tones, unmistakable "quack", inferior construction and materials.
Both guitars have made their mark in rock history. I have more than one of each, and interestingly, a Lp that has Strat tonal tendencies and a Strat with LP tonal tendencies. The Gibsonish strat actually weighs in at over 13 lbs. The fenderish Les Paul has great single coils and the strat cutting power. :sleepy:

^ yeah, that's a good way to put it. Nothing compares to the thick power chording of an SG or LP, the same way nothing compares to the soulful blues tone of a Strat.

Better yet, why don't we just talk about Fenders and Gibsons. I can talk about that all day.
Get a Mexican Telecaster, they're cheaper than USA Telecaster's and they aren't crap. I got one in Feb and it was the best thing I ever bought! If you can afford a USA one go for it, if you've got a budget go for a Mex, but don't get a Jap, if you get a Jap you're wasting your money, you may as well get a Squire as get a Jap.
I got a cream (blonde?) with white scratch plate - a bit like Jon Fratelli's but mine has a maple fretboard, it looks like Mr Gilmour's actually, I prefer maple to rosewood.

Dont get a jap ?.....Ive got one and its the most warmest sounding telecaster ive ever owned.
It is much much diffrent to a squier for starters the bridge saddles are completely opposite to a jap the jap has slightly better parts but it is all noticeable in the sustain of the guitar.
The squier is just cheap fender parts were as the Jap is all stock fender, slightly better. The USA telecasters are pretty much the same as the jap except the sound is more bright and not as warm.

Maybe you are thinking of Korean. Japanese guitars are typically high quality and Japanese Fenders are fine instruments.
But I do agree on the Mexican Fenders. I've seen some duds but also seen some nice ones. I bought a Mexi Strat in 94, with a few upgrades, and a good setup, it's a nice guitar.
