paparazzi! Wrote:Is it worth to read Sheet music to play Floyd or is just best to get Tabs? I know I know use your ear, Im getting their, probably about 35% down as far solos. Shity I know, but I only learned a few scales in Febuary. Actually I only learned one and I use the same "fingering positions" all over the fretboard. Bad move I know, but the more and more I this I could tell where certain notes were on a solo while listening. It's hard to explain. Im lazy :D with constant rining ears ( seriously, since I was 3 haha). I don't think I sound bad, bad bad. I beleive I have the know how to play the solo fo time. But heres the problem. It's remembering all them numbers. This is how my crazy mind works... "oh ****, look at all them numbers haha''. But once sit down and stare at the thing for about 15 minutes i then think, ahh ok. Then I go along, then I think, crap im never going to be able to complete this solo this year with all these bends and notes...; '"f*ck it" comes out of my mouth in a joy full manner. Heck even wish you were here seems easy but then comes "crap, look at all these numbers. I get half way through it and give up haha. It's a bad thing about me, it's not beleive ing my self haha. Lets call Maury.
I find reading tabs to be cumbersome. There's too much information to look at within such a short period of time. Once you learn how, I think you'll find reading music to be easier and more efficient, because there's only one note to look at which communicates the same information as a tab with a bunch of numbers on a chart.

Thus far, I'm strictly tabs. As a kid taking piano lessions, I apparently did learn to read music to an extent, but I don't remember any of it.
One of these days....

paparazzi! Wrote:I was wondering if any of you can read music. If you can, how often do use the "skill" and is it really usefull? Im just learning it, I find it interesting but yet a pain . I can play music, I just have that feeling that I don't fully know music, know what I mean? I like the would like to learn the aspect, instead of just looking at tabs or chords or scales.

i play sax too so i read music a lot. its mostly lead sheet stuff now since im not in band anymore. but i gotta admit its kinda annoying when someone can't play a simple head because they can't read music.
