The Valve jr was a steal at 99 dollars I thought.Nice gutsy oldschool OD sound. Then I put about another 100.00 in it, and it's an amazing lil bugger, totally versatile and great sounding. If you noticed, I put a push pull prevolume/tone/boost switch, a three way toggle for different levels of drive, and a negative feedback circuit for a very fenderish sound. Replaced some caps with Sprague orange drops, and also, not pictured it has a built in attenuator and an adjustable volume line out. I can crank the tubes to 10, but play barely above a whisper if i want to. Also use the line out and use it for a preamp od od/distortion device. VERY VERSATILE and Sounds Great.

:)

If I want to start messing around with guitar electronics and such, what should I do?

Depends on what you mean by "messing around" and "electronics".

electronics such as pedals are a fun way to mess around. I first got a distortion pedal, then a Boss Blues Driver. Both are great and fun to mess around with. So if thats what you mean then look into those pedals to improve your sound

I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house
I don't know why I call him Gerald.
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse! I love that line haha.

I hope one of you guitarist can give me some ideas. My 16 year old Grandson has been playing for abot 2 years and he is very good. He would like to move up to something better then what he has now. The guitar he uses is worth about $200. The family would[/u] like to chip in and get him something better. He'd like a Les Paul but I doubt we can afford it. Does anyone have suggestion as to what to look for?

I don't play guitar, but my son does... his guitar teacher turned him onto the Canadian guitar company Godin because they sell excellent quality guitars that rate up there with Gibson or Fender, but for about half the price. My son's electric is a Godin SD and his accoustic is a Seagull (another Godin brand)... he LOVES them both... for their sound, versatility, how the neck feels in his hands, etc. If he were home right now, I'm sure he'd be happy to elaborate, but in the meantime, here's some links:
