I recently purchased a Dark Side of the Moon tribute album by the band Out of Phase. It was the biggest waste of fifteen bucks I have ever encountered. The vocals were lousy and the random sounds and effects were just horrible and annoying. I went online to take a look at the band's other projects, and they had covered several Floyd albums, as well as Who's Next, The Animals, and several others. I listened in and they were just god-awful. Avoid at all cost. They are horrible!
Peace Out!

Jintzey Wrote:Yeah can't say I was too impressed myself, but what do you expect from tribute albums? The only one I have found who does like it is someone who doesn't like PF.
Well, I expect a lot from a tribute album, especially the one I produced. Some are, in whole or in part, pretty damn good (like Signs of Life from Angular Records, An Allstar Lineup Performing the Songs of Pink Floyd, Luther Wright & The Wrongs, Rebuild the Wall, Dub Side of the Moon, Us & Them Symphonic Floyd, Echoes of Pink and, of course, A Fair Forgery of Pink Floyd). Some are not so good (like all of the Out of Phase debacles, Pickin on Pink Floyd, the Reggae Tribute to Pink Floyd, The Other Side of Pink Floyd). What is disappointing is that the bad ones cause people to conclude that "all tribute records suck." It's not true -- I can assure you that Out of Phase can't hold my project's jockstrap and ours costs $20 for two CDs instead of $15 poured down a rat hole (unless you happen to show up to a Which One's Pink show in which case it will cost you $15 or two for $25). Freaking Amazon.com has our record "packaged" with Out of Phase's WYWH

W1P, I'll second you on Us and Them--that's an excellent tribute. All the way from the obsessive take on "Another Brick in the Wall, Part II" to the way the violin nails the tone of Mr. Waters' vocals on "Nobody Home", to "Us and Them" itself, it is a very worthwhile tribute. Its only problem is that it's too short and only has songs from two albums!

Jintzey Wrote:I wasn't trying to imply that ALL tribute albums are bad. In fact, I have quite a collection of PF tributes that I love. It's just unfortunate that most tribute attempts turn out bad so, as you said, it's not usually assumed that a good one will be good until you've heard it.
Like Justafo, I bought an "Out of Phase" record at Best Buy a few years back (Animals 2001) and regretted that decision. I give them massive credit for distribution and zero points for execution.
