I could understand that Roger Waters is experimenting. Having spent a good bit of his life on a project I can see why it came out. It's really a matter of a opinion really but maybe I could change my mind once I hear it. Atom Heart Mother was a good composition but that's just Atom Heart Mother though.

I like how he is expanding his musical horizons so to speak, but opera just is not my thing. So, I think it is good for him, but not so great for his fans who aren't really into this style of music.

This is a question, not a criticism: How many operas have you listened to?

I agree with you that many of his fans will be scared off by the mere mention of the word "opera." I think that's mainly because music education is practically non-existent these days.

Asking people with no, or limited, music education to listen to a symphony or opera and expecting them to comprehend what they are hearing is similar to handing them a book written in Croation and asking them an hour later how they liked the story. At best, they will have recognized the occasional word.

People reject classical/serious/formal music (whatever anyone wants to call it. Personally, I think there are only two kinds of music: Good music and bad music.) because it doesn't "speak to them." It doesn't speak to them because they don't have a clue how to listen.

"We don't need no (music) education ..."
