W1P Wrote:Hmmmm. This is a funny thread ("funny how?") You got cev calling gilmost "G" (wat up?), you got this wonderfully ambiguous reference to a personal "meet up" with The Machine (wat up wid dat?), you got Eroc & Wille (now THERE's a "duo"). What's next? Ian v. Colin in a best two our of three falls grudge match? "C'mon without, c'mon within, you'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn"
We got a "Key Club" show tomorrow night ("G", I think this is where you went for that DG OAI release party?). It's a great little venue which was built on the spot that used to be Gazzari's on the Sunset Strip (Decline of Western Civilization Pt. 2, anyone?). This is a spot where W1P played their second show ever in April 1998 (which also was my first date with the woman now my wife!). And an added bonus is that Zukowsky's Deep Purple tribute "Fireball" was just added as an opener. Should be fun :O
c & G be tight yo, aight? lampin' chilled like ice yo...maybe a visit to da bus on 11-05 since there's an open invite...onstage or off, Ian vs Colin ain't no fight yo
I don't know the guys in The Machine, although they play my hometown as often as CE did...they once had a mistake in one of their ads, naming the wrong venue for an upcoming gig...I sent a nice e-mail explaining the mistake, calling them brothers in tribute, etc...I got back a one word e-mail.....thanks.....that was it....hmmmm
I don't care what anyone says D... :) :) your gigs always sound like the most fun!! :D

Simply apply Gilmost's "Tribute Band Lyrical Adhesive" (TBLA), let set overnight, and suddenly Floyd bands everywhere are "bonded".... :D
Well I'm glad I'm recently seen as being a positive force here, and that of course has been my overriding motive and purpose.
The Machine in Reno? They (Neil, Todd, & Ryan, no Joe) were relaxing in the warm bubbles before their outdoor engagement at the Peppermill a few years back. I'll simply say that when I brought up my Floydian involvement, it was clear that they would rather have been counting the bubbles coming up around them than listen to my story. I should have left them alone I guess but I couldn't resist approaching them My bad.
Yes, The Key Club!! It was the scene of my "On An Island" preview, and what a night that was!! I felt like I was walking into Disneyland with Walt himself escorting me in! Great, kick ass sound system there! Have fun with that Dan!!
Colin and Ian? Is this a TAPFS reference? I think so... I did break down and order my very own copy of the APF DVD. Should be here any time.
Have a great weekend guys! Cheers!

That's amusing me to death. I don't know if you have a copy of A Fair Forgery of Pink Floyd but if you do you will notice that "Is There Anybody Out There" is performed by the artist known as "TBL featuring Stevie Z" Well, "TBL" (no A) is the name I gave to Zukowsky standing for "Tribute Band Legend"
The guy is the Kevin Bacon of tribute bands. I believe that every tribute band in the US is within "6 degrees of TBL"
- the first degree, Steve was a member of your band
- the second degree Steve once sat in with your band
- third degree your band played a show with a tribute band of which Steve was a member that night
- fourth degree your band played a show with a tribute band with which Steve was once a member
- fifth degree your band played a show with a tribute band with which Steve once sat in with
- sixth degree, your band played a show with a tribute band that once played a show with a tribute band with which Steve was once a member or sat in with
I know Steve has been a member of Sheer Heart Attack, Led Zepagain, Fireball, Which One's Pink? and a Rush tribute from the early 90s whose name escapes me. I know Steve has sat in with Peace Frog, Sticky Fingers (LA) and Caress of Steel.
Just thinking out loud here, TBL's degrees of separation from some of our friends:
WYWH -- played with the Atomic Punks who have, at least, played with W1P, Zepagain, Sticky Fingers.
The Machine -- played with Peace Frog
Pink Froyd/PFX -- played with Roundabout who has played with both Zepagain and W1P (not to mention that Jessie the sax player of PFX was loaned to W1P for a couple of shows)
I'm sure that we could make at least 6 degrees to every every Floyd tribute in the US with a little thought!

Eroc, I'm not ignoring you .. :) .. we are on the road and about to start setting up for tonight in about an hour.
I'll be back at home base Monday morning.
Just very quickly ... we are self-contained, though we will make use of venue lighting if it enhances our production ... we drive ... everyone is expected to entertain themselves on downtime ... we do organize outings and BBQs, etc., but they are all adults and are responsible for themselves ... yes, they get a modest per diem, but they are being paid well and are expected to have there own spending money. We pay for travel/hotel.
I'll get into this thread more in a couple of days.
Cheers!

- sixth degree, your band played a show with a tribute band that once played a show with a tribute band with which Steve was once a member or sat in with"
& may I add:
- eleventh degree, you hire the keyboard player from "Roundabout" for PFX (because my keyboard player has been fired, and John's suddenly quit his band, and is available), and famous for having played gigs backing up "Stevey Z & W1P Players" in Los Angeles.
- fifty sixth degree, your band is about to play (Pink Froyd), and you meet Steve (w/Paul S.) backstage because he's checking out "Sticky Fingers" because he's about to sub for their guitar player soon" ( ref: "Green on the Hill", 07/28/00) & we're on stage later with the ex-keyboardist from The Machine (Marc Zimmerman). This clearly now links "Z Man" with The Machine! How about that?!
- eighty ninth degree, your band (Pink Froyd) is about to play, and "TBL" is there to see you, and before sound check your band is suddenly rained out/cancelled due to a freak summer storm on the mountain! ("Villagestock", Mammoth Lakes, CA 07/08/06)
...that's all I gotta say 'bout that.

Having just finished paying off my Gilmour tickets and related expenses I'm not sure if I'm ready for another second mortgage to complete this mission. I might have to pass...

That's too funny....
and besides Atomic Punks (who are great people too, btw), we gotta include the other tribute bands on that Fakefest 2002 Tour: Hell's Bells, Zoo Station, and Paradise City... Hell's Bells are real US road warriors, there's gotta be some more degrees with them involved too, lol..
Gilmost, interesting sidebar about the Machine encounter.
(Hey Zeb, I hope I wasn't like that when you introduced yourself to me a few years ago, lol..)
btw- Rog ruled in Cleveland this past Wednesday, what a powerful show - my review is in the Roger Waters section of the main Forum. Worth every cent!
